Why didn't the decent managers in the wonderful tournaments you yearn for get us through?

Because our players didn't have the capability.

Simple as that.

You give Robson or Venables the players we have today...

Still think ot was a penalty for a foul outside the box? lol

That was a real missed opportunity wasn't it? Previous tournaments I've felt annoyed at how we've underachieved or underperformed, but I just felt the opponent was really ordinary this time and that just makes it so much more frustrating.

Gary Neville summed it up by saying thennear misses he can previously involved in where ones they deserved to lose far more than this eve.

Cliched as fvck but if you lose you lose, doesnt really matter how and thats the harsh reality of top level sport.

All the talk will be about Southgate, as I wrote on the previous page.

We know what Southgate brings. Safe, secure, sit, soak, break quickly. We know this.

As a man manager he’s great. As a tactician, he very limited. We’ve all said this tons of times.

England’s losing mentality at football tournaments is and always has been about so much more than the manager at the helm.

It’s a psychological problem. Southgate didn’t make Kane wildly (and it WAS wild) blaze it over the bar. Southgate didn’t allow Giroud two free headers on goal in the space of a few mins.

It’s a British thing. Theories have been banded about for decades about ‘two many foreign players in the Prem’ or how our players ‘earn too much too quickly’ etc etc.

Whatever the reason, we’ve lost, again, and the debate will rage on.

I saw tonight’s game as a real watershed moment in English international football. Finally, a really good side who could end this hoodoo. Alas, we weren’t and it hasn’t.

Neither of them were sacked by Middlesbrough lol

Joachim Low's incredibly underwhelming managerial record before taking the Germany job didn't stop him from winning the world cup

On a positive note we've just gone head to head with one of the best teams in world football and been incredibly unlucky to lose. We're making progress as a nation and finally seem to have a systematic process in place for bringing through top class talent. Looking at the young talent we have now and the talent coming through I think we'll be a real force at the next WC.

Most German fans blame him for costing them a few more tournaments though

To be fair they were missing God, Benzema and Pogba

Quicker England fans realise they are NOT the top footballing nation they think they are, the easier these days will be.

They arent on par with France, Argies, Germany historically, just be like Morocco and enjoy the tournaments but dont expect to win them!

I don't think England fans think they're THE top footballing nation these days. As most fans of a national team, they want them to do well and when they don't it's upsetting but, we're quarter finalists again. We didn't get knocked out in the the groups or the round of 16 which has happened before.

Of course there are expectations that can't be met and that's pretty much the same for all competitions. Some you win, some you don't.

Don't forget France are current world champions albeit not the force they were but still a level above. We were the better team but didn't have the better individuals at key moments. France did.

OK, I can't post you both, but @Tommy Fresh and @Miquel The Work Geordie...

Southgate is tactically clueless.

We needed creativity. He bought on Mount.

He took off Saka.

I'm not saying I want Sven or Capello in charge, I'm saying we got to the same stage as those 2 did.

Russia 18 was a semi because the draw was kind. Incredibly kind. We were penalty kicks away from going out in round 2.

We lost 3 out of 7 games lol

Euro 2020 was similar. Basically a home tournament for us. We beat Germany, that's it.

I don't get the Southgate love in.

He might have built a good spirit, but that's it. The football is shite and negative.

You're telling me that Mount and Gallagher should be anywhere near that squad?

Behave.
