Kamil Piatkowski - has joined Belgian side KAA Gent on loan

The cynical take is that he's our new Benkovic.  But it's actually a pretty decent signing based on where we are as a club at the minute.

Lots of talk around Kamil Piatkowski atm. RB Salzburg have confirmed he's in talks with a foreign club over a transfer. Austrian media say it's #LCFC. Not played much at Salzburg (injuries ) but won young player of the season in Poland in 2021. More

Didn't ask who you would play him over. Asked whether you would be happy that he would be our new starting CB?

As in, we are desperate for a top quality CB to help save us from relegation, and this looks like what we are getting...

I am pretty concerned by that tbh. He seems a prospect, one that has been injured lots and barely played any games in his short career.

This is the guy that is going to come in to the starting 11 and do the business for us in the toughest league in the world week in week out? (if stays fit)

I think we need more than that in our situation, and so I only hope that this is simply a good deal, and we are adding to our squad, but we still have a more accomplished CB coming in this window. Hope he proves me wrong if this is it though!

If we haven't got the money, we haven't got the money. We're having to go bargain hunting again - as others have said, CB is a position we've generally recruited well for (Vestergaard aside) and we of all people know that price tags mean little - Mahrez was less than a million, wasn't he?

I don't care how much he costs or where he came from, I just care if he's good - and I'll give him the chance to show that.

Slag off our recruitment all you like but if there's a position we haven't disappointed in signing players lately, its centre back

Vestergaard?

Faes?

apparently we do have the money, or so Top says. Who knows what to believe. On one hand we are heavily linked with £5million players like this, but also with £30million players like Gonzalez.

I just don't think this guy on paper should be a starting CB for us in our position, but if he stays fit and lives up to his early hype, who knows! Hope dies last

Last Polish CB coming back from nasty injuries we had turned out to be decent…

Yes, but he inflicted nasty injuries on others. Big difference

Yes and wish Wasyl was still here so he could go searching for Fofana when Chelski come to town

Jury is still out on Faes he has cost us more goals than Amartey this season and his complete lack of pace is a big problem, hopefully he comes good though.

The Wout Faes cult hero thread in the LCFC forum had me thinking he was liked tbh lol

Aerial duels for defenders is a stat that can be skewed massively, Faes had really low stats at Reims due to the style of play and yet I'd say in his first part of his career here (up to the World Cup break) he was winning plenty of duels for us.

True, but he was sensational pre world cup, and I think his confidence dropped off a cliff with those own goals. I still think he is a top player, but like with many other players, think a change of manager and set-up/style, will help him greatly. Also can't be easy with Amartey as your partner in a back two.

He also plays for Salzburg who play with a lot of possession so when called upon to challenge to get the ball back he’s quite successful and his interceptions are very high too. Staying fit will be the main concern.

Good point, who has been out worst defender?

Thomas? Faes? Amarty?

I'm not sure who has made the most mistakes this season....

Realistically none of them should be starting every game for us.

Find this one bizarre in all honesty.

I’ve banged on about Salzburg a lot over the past year, but this lad has hardly featured for them when I’ve watched them in the Champions League.

He’s been 4th choice in their centre back pecking order.

Also had two injury spells in the past two seasons.

I guess the scouting team must have seen something in him during his games in the Austrian Bundesliga.

He’ll probably replace Soyuncu or Vestergaard rather than Amartey.

Spot on.

I am seeing a punt on a future prospect with a lack of games and some injuries. Not a starting CB who can come straight in and make a huge difference for us.

I would much prefer us to be signing an established CB who has been playing week in week out in a decent team and league. It will cost us, but relegation will be far more costly to us and Top.
