FA Cup 5th Round v Blackburn Rovers - 28/2/23, 19:30

This is going to be classic Brendan 22/23 cup ball.  Expect all the possession, consistent passing around the box, nothing direct, and Nacho scoring the winner in the 2nd half. It’s going to be excruciating.

These are no mugs. I think we can afford to make some changes, but they have to be the right ones else we could easily find ourselves out.

No Maddison? For me Maddison instead of Praet and Iheanacho instead of Daka. Rest I would pick too, maybe Souttar instead of Amartey but not a bad rotation.

I don't even want to win the Cup if it means we have another 18 months of "he won the FA Cup again, he's brought untold riches to this club, it doesn’t matter if he deliberately gets us relegated to league 2 and takes a dump on the Vichai memorial he simply has to be our manager until the world finally ends" bollocks.

“I don’t want to win the FA Cup”.

get a grip on yourself. You sound proper entitled

Obviously there's is a certain amount of Jest in my post but if I really consider it, I'm not sure I would to be honest...

We've won it recently and it was obviously a massive tick, at last. But the thought of another 2 years watching this abject horrorshow on and off the pitch with all that entails, mood wise, the slow demise of the club and atmosphere, the not even being able to get excited for the weekend etc. It all adds up, its been pretty torrid and I hoped we had turned a corner the other week but even just the though that that may have been a false dawn is enough to make me miserable again. I wouldn't even mind losing games if the football was at least exciting, but it's not, its terrible, the atmosphere is terrible.

Would people really take another couple of years of that, plus relegation, the inevitable financial problems that come with it etc just for the sake of another FA Cup win so recently after the last?

Yes of course. Relegation and financial problems are part of parcel of supporting a football club, but winning trophies is what you remember and the reason you get into watching football.

Besides, the reality is it isn’t that extreme is it? Winning the cup would just be amazing regardless, the likelihood is it wouldn’t affect much of anything else going forward.

It’s pretty clear that the owners can’t/won’t sack Rodgers regardless of what he does. Winning the FA Cup or not isn’t changing that so what’s the point at getting down over a hypothetical that doesn’t even make sense over what would be great memories in winning the cup?

Bore off and think about the context. Try not to take everything you read on a forum so seriously. Have explained further in a layer post in the thread and if you think that's not warranted justification then you are delusional.

Then I may as well just give up now because its a borefest and watching the club go the way it has already is depressing enough. Rodgers forever! Yey!

Basically what I'm saying is that too many people giving Brendan too much time and credit has already caused damage for the club and threatens to do more. I can't get on board with anything promoting that. Too many fans either just happy clappers these days or just not that arsed about the club they pretend to support.

We do have some proper weirdo fans don’t we! What sort of mug doesn’t want to win the FA Cup?

The amount of fans we have that seem to  get off on being miserable and actively wanting us to lose is staggering.

I don’t go on other teams forums, but can’t wait machine any other sets of fans that turn their noses up at the FA Cup, or the Europa Conference, because they personally don’t like the particular manager and a bit of success might prove them wrong.

Then give up then, if you can’t enjoy us winning the cup because of some weird, nonsensical hypothetical then what’s the point?

Most of us want Rodgers gone, but he wasn’t even sacked when we were cut adrift at the bottom on 1pt so what’s the point in actively wanting your team to lose and not win trophies when it’s not even going to give you what you want anyway?

It’s not “warranted justification” at all because Rodgers isn’t going to suddenly be sacked if we lose vs Blackburn and neither will he be here for life taking us down to League Two if we win the FA Cup. Winning the FA Cup is still the dream and something you’d treasure for the rest of your life. It’s very unlikely to affect how long Rodgers will be here in reality either way

Again, not really getting the context are you? It was in Jest, I don't actually ever not want to win trophies. Its a commentary on the fact that damage has already been done because for too many 'fans' have given 'credit in the bank' for far to long and as a result lots of the things that made this club brilliant are slowly draining away.

If you actively want to watch this week in week out, suffer relegation, financial issues etc etc then you're a 'proper weirdo fan' in my book.

Some people have short memories - we nearly disappeared as a club once you know. My comments amount to this: I'd rather long term stability, ambition and success than the current trajectory with another FA Cup thrown in. I'm not into short termism.

I might reconsider that view if we hadn't ever won the FA Cup, because in my eyes it's the most important and prestigious cup. But we have won it, and recently, so in my opinion what matters at this stage is the safety and security of the club. Not a trophy.
