Really not liking being linked too so many players in their peak or over the hill years. Feel like theres going to be a lot of deadwood in the next few years. Young and hungry with a high ceiling..

I can see a reason for getting either Winks or Cairney but not both.  Imagine that will send our wage budget into overdrive if we sign these and Coady.  At least £50k a week each.  A very risky strategy if we do not go straight back up and if we do neither Winks or Cairney would be first choices imo.  Would rather get a younger hungrier player.

Nah, there’s going to be huge wages freed up via those we’re selling and those that have been released, and end of contracts

There is at least £150k per week on those 3 alone which is almost £8m per season!  Eye watering amounts for a championship club and more than the weekly budget for half the clubs in this division.

Then Steffen is on £80k a week at Man City.  All unsustainable for more than a season.  Last season Cov had a weekly wage bill of less than £128k!

If we have midfield options of KDH, Winks, Cairney, Hamza, Soumare and another creative sitting midfielder say… Bernabe from Parma we good to go in the middle of the park

Posted

Yes please- options needed- Ndidi & Soumare will leave and we need reinforcements- very decent in championship

Here we go -  Leicester Life Assurance dishing out yet another Pension Top-up.  Cody fine - I get that and even Winks at a reasonable price and wages.  But how about some young hungry players coming in?

If this happens then I really hope that is the last of the premier league players on their way down. Coady, Winks and Cairney would be more than sufficient I'd be concerned if there were to be more signings of that ilk.

Cairney is the most creative though which is a worry, we need a creative midfielder. KDH and Hamza are not creative enough. And I take it Soumare will be off?

Not totally against it, never been an established Premier League player so probably doesn't bring huge wage demands. Short term thinking definitely but proven to be class at this level.

Hence why I suggest Bernabe. Winks is also creative tbf.
I just don’t know who takes Soumare? Maybe some team in France! Let’s face it, he’s a failed project, that lad

I’m sure we will but we need to develop a spine at the club and part of that is through experience. In our last championship campaign we had a number of young hungry players but also bags of experience (Morgan, Wasyl, Nugent, Dyer, Phillips, GTF etc).

I'm in this camp too. Cairney is older and no resale value, but is the more creative player and proven at this level. Winks might have some use if we get back to the Premier League.

I suppose it depends on how many players leave though. Praet is off, Tielemans gone, Maddison going. Will Soumare still be here? With 46 games we need options. But it scares me if we sign too many players over the age of 25.

If you use the phrase ‘here we go’ you have to add a flashing beacon emoji, these days. It’s the law!

We need experience/nous both generally and within the league as we find ourselves with

  • Tielemans (Who counts due to his longevity in the game)
  • Maddison seems done
  • Evans, Mendy, Bertrand, Evans, Amartey, Soyuncu leaving for nowt
  • Plus Jannick? Praet? Barnes? Nacho? Hamza? Bouba? Daka? Faes?
    • All seem likely or at least possible to leave
    • And its not always totally about their on field value, it can also be about their value to the group at large, a calm head at times of pressure

I get 100% why we need experience heads, and need them first

Get the kids who fit the profile ("young, dumb and full of ***") later, maybe by tapping the Man City youth tap

If our only midfield additions are Qinks and Cairney then I'm very worried.

If its them two plus Dewsbury-Hall and Ndidi. We probably need one more box to box midfielder and it wouldn't be bad for the championship.

Then we need to get the wide players because we will need at least 3 of them.

When we won both the Championship and Premier League titles we had a good amount of experienced players into their late 20s and into their 30s throughout the squad along with players still under 25

Even if we do add the likes of Coady, Winks, and Cairney there is still plenty of other players in our squad that I think may well stay for next season that are 25 or under, along with us apparently looking to add Piroe and being linked with other younger players

the people that think think we could do well with a team full of 18/19/20 year olds are mistaken.

The best U21 teams in the country cant even beat the best league 1 teams to win the papa johns trophy. It’s critical that we have the experience and older heads in the team aswell.
