A cheap short term solution who also played at Man City and is excellent with his feet. Experienced, cheap fee, but lasts one season tops and maybe can't handle 2/3 games a week. - Zack Steffen. Good age for a GK, experience in the Championship and big leagues. Pretty steady who could do a job from day one. - James Trafford. Has the highest ceiling but is the least experienced and most raw. I'd expect a few clangers from him. I prefer James Trafford because I think he has the most potential, and in this season where we have a bit of room for manoeuvre to develop some talents, think it's the perfect time to blood someone like him. Worst case scenario we already have a keeper who is proven in this league, which means there's even more reason to be daring with this position. I hope the club wouldn't ever bother with Caballero, if they did I hope at most it would be as 3rd choice, 41 now and hasn't really played any regular football since 2016/17, would just be asking for trouble I feel I am not too sure what to think about Steffen to be honest, he can play with his feet which we all know Maresca will want, but his actual goalkeeping leaves a fair bit to be desired for me, he ranks really low even in the Championship when it comes to how many goals he let in compared to how many he was expected to, as well as dropping a few clangers himself for Middlesborough. Of course we also have the issue of at what point he would actually be available for us to due his injury. It is a bit harder to find specific stats for Trafford, but him picking up 22 clean sheets and Bolton conceding just 36 goals all season even though they were facing an average xG of 1.35 goals against per game would suggest he did have a very good season, so to me it does feel like picking up Trafford who looks be on a great track development wise would be the smartest and best choice of the 3 If it is going to cost £8m+ for Steffen then I would much rather we either put that towards Trafford or look for someone else 1

Gerard Posted 1 July 2023 Posted 1 July 2023 (edited) Never seen him play but reading about Trafford he sounds like he has the potential to be world class at best or at worst mid PL class. Man City don't sell their best youngsters, least of all to us. When we signed Iheanacho we should have known Pep knew he wasn't top class, they would never had sold us a 17/18yo Foden. I highly suspect this would be a loan but if it was a purchase at least our manager knows him inside out. Edited 1 July 2023 by Gerard

sdb Posted 1 July 2023 Posted 1 July 2023 When did Iversen become not good enough? If it's his distribution (only semi logical argument I can see), then surely that can be worked on heavily. So many other priority areas (including reducing the squad/wage bill). 3

Apart from being so slow at releasing the ball (and awful when he eventually does), the goals he conceded at Fulham bother me. He also seems quiet and not an organiser of the defence like Kasper and the great goalkeepers are.
bluebloodedfox Posted 1 July 2023 Posted 1 July 2023 I would be really surprised if this one happens as a permanent deal. would I sacrifice getting steffen on a permanent deal for this one I’m not 100% convinced - plus I always break the rule of falling in love with a loan player
Jakemoore Posted 1 July 2023 Posted 1 July 2023 I won’t pretend that I’ve seen this lad play loads but I have seen him for the England u21s in the 3 games so far. His kicking is fantastic. He’s bloody huge and when called upon he’s been solid. He hasn’t been tested much in the 3 games so it’s hard to state with any confidence how good his shot-stopping is when compared to Iversen but I can safely say his kicking his a level above. To be fair, my kicking is a level above Iversen‘s too…

Gerard Posted 2 July 2023 Posted 2 July 2023 Next season is all about promotion, if he improves the GK spot then happy to have him on loan. We could get promoted and still keep him on loan next season if Man City can't give him enough games.
filbertway Posted 2 July 2023 Posted 2 July 2023 Club wastes 1 of 4 loan options on position that doesn't need using.
HybridFox Posted 2 July 2023 Posted 2 July 2023 I've been impressed with him in the England U21s I have to say. Lots of potential still

I don't think that can be fixed by "working" on it. When you're as dreadful as Iverson the best you'll ever get to is barely tolerable, and that won't cut it for how Enzo wants to play.

Devonfox1884 Posted 2 July 2023 Posted 2 July 2023 If we were to sign him, there’s no chance Iversen stays to be a number 2 in the championship is there? Think he’d be sold for a few million.

Think he’d be sold for a few million. Agreed. He deserves to be number 1 so as much as I was hoping this would be Iverson’s chance with us, clearly the club and manager don’t see it that way so we should see what we can get from another Championship club (apparently Stoke are fans of his and you would imagine Preston). Then put whatever we make from that towards Trafford (not Steffan!)

There is no way you can improve Iversen’s kicking to the level it needs to be. I’d be selling him to a Championship club for reasonable money.

His distribution will have been worked on. It's poor. Iversen is a great keeper in many ways. But to accommodate him, we had to change our style of play. We gave the ball away more rapidly putting us under pressure. Iversen is a good keeper but will not be a top level keeper.
