Perfectly reasonable stance to say he wasn't good enough for us in the Prem but is good enough for a potential promotion push from the Championship.

Only one goal so far but 1 in 3 is a decent strike rate if he can keep that up.

Clearly he wasn't of the standard we required at the time but career arcs and club fortunes can change quickly.

I think he could've been a decent squad player for us this season but ultimately probably isn't the type of player Maresca will want, especially if our aims are to go up, stay up and push for top-half PL finishes, European football and latter stage cup runs (trying not to get carried away but just projecting our possible medium-term aims).

In short, Hirst looks in decent nick and at 24 it was time for him to find a home. It didn't work out here, doesn't mean we were wrong to let him go and it doesn't make him a bad player either. Hopefully he can go on to fulfill his promise (as long as it doesn't come at our expense).

Absolutely going to score against us when we play Ipswich

Although he scored in his 1st game it looks like his overall performances haven’t actually stood out that much so far

Might just be the way Ipswich has him playing but it absolutely looks like he wouldn’t have fit into Maresca’s style of play at all

At no point in his time here did he do anything to justify us keeping him. Selling was the right decision. Agree that he'll definately score against us.

Thats funny because Mavididi has done exactly the same and people think hes the next Mahrez.

Where to start with this......

One is a striker one is a winger

Mavididi has had a hand in 3 goals

Only person linking him to Mahrez is you because of this unhealthy obsession you have with him.

Sounds like you're disagreeing with a perfectly reasonable comment includimg throwing in a passive aggressive emoji.  You are so Foxestalk.    :)

I've been here long enough to understand how it works.

It's dog eat dog.

He is a winger though, not a striker.

Jesus, this is gonna be like reliving Kramaric threads all over again......

Every time Hirst scores a goal we will have this shit.....

Yep - Correct decision to get rid of Kramaric at the time

Correct decision to get rid of Hirst when we did

Even if he scores 30 goals this season, gets the golden boot and ends up called up into the International team - it will still have been the correct decision to move him on at the time when we made it

He may do ok for Ipswich but let’s be straight here, if he had been involved in our matchday squad let alone the starting XI then there would have been a meltdown on here. Likewise I am sure if Iversen, Kristensen, Thomas et al move on they are likely to do well but that doesn’t mean they should stay here, they don’t fit our style and how we want to move forward and therefore we have to move these players on so we can progress on our own journey and refresh.

On a side note. Ipswich Manager is looking more and more the real deal too!

the games between ipswich, southampton and ourselves are going to be really interesting  as the managers all play a similar brand of football.

Intrigued to see which is capable of switching things up to get a result.

From early signs ipswich are more direct, we are somewhere in the middle and southampton are the the furthest from direct you can be. All with possession as the main focus.  Could end up the top 3 come the end of it all.

Did George Hirst play against spurs on last day of season?

Season before, the 3-0 defeat there in the interrupted COVID season. Came on for 7 minutes at 3-0 down. Bit of a stretch to claim he was played to help hold on to top 4 mind

Playing George Hirst and Ryan Bennett against Spurs when we were trying to hold on to a place in the top 4, was a low point of lockdown.

It might say more about me than I'd like, but I was more upset about this than I was about a family member passing away due to Covid during lockdown!

Our game against Southampton will be the first test. All our opponents so far have missed good chances against us, if similar chances fall to the likes of Armstrong then the outcome will probably be different.

Both Ipswich and Plymouth have had a good start and are obviously carrying momentum from last season. Be interesting to see where both end up come the end of the season.

Looks like Norwich are gonna be up there too, though still early days yet.

My god. That was when the inquest should've happened. What a way to disrespect the league and indirectly the champions league.

To be fair to Rodgers, he did have an excuse to moan over that January transfer window.

Selling a player to a rival club that is capable of this would have gone in Rudkins top 5 gaffes, and he's made plenty.

The fact is he isn't and never has looked to the standard we require.

Unlike Kramaric who was clearly a talented player who didn't work out for a combination of reasons all unrelated to his actual ability.

Edited to say, I understand where you're coming from, but that was a terrible example imo :D

It was tragic considering we had a great chance of securing top 4 with a decent CB signing.
