Potentially. I wasn’t dissecting the goals, I was commenting on VKs part in them. His part in second goal looked poor though (regardless of whether the cross should have been stopped). It would have been an easy interception if he’d got back 10 yards deeper.

I think it's a mixture of factors, laziness, lack of awareness, poor coaching, poor communication between the players, general lack of desire. A better left back would have been in a better position, but 5 other players gravitating to the ball like 6 year olds is inexcusable, one pass and they're all out of the game.

Faes caused an issue by trying to dive in and completely missing on the halfway line putting himself out of position , then VK could see merino as he kept looking over at him, if he couldn’t get back then should be making okoli aware

So they bring on Merino for Streling and it's as if our defence are unaware of the switch, his presence. Nobody switches their attention to him.  Schoolboy stuff.

It’s because he’s not very good.  
 

At one point, not that long ago, our back line was Chilwell, Maguire, Evans, Ricardo.

 

If the recruitment team were given the specific task of finding an alternative back 4 with the exact opposite ability of this they couldn’t have done a better job.

 

Every single defender at the club at present is a steaming pile of shite (Ricardo not included as he’s injured but i’m fully prepared for him to come back and be gash).

He'd be far better as a wing back, going forward he's fine but his defending is shocking. He's never within 5 yards of the wide man,doesn't anticipate the cut inside and positionally he's all over the place. So many balls just float over him to the winger.

Yes Ricardo will be a shadow of his former self, great when he was at the top of his game, however he needs to be gone at the end of his contract, at this level we are lucky if he can string 6 or 7 matches without an injury that seemstolast for 3 quarters of the season...

I think he is better as a wing back that has 3 CBs behind him in defensive positions, largely as he is below average as a defender. He is better in attacking positions but not much better! He is only 22 so maybe can develop but I would punt him out of our club as he isnt even Championship standard

When you say he'd be far better as a wingback I can only assume you mean we'd be far better defensively if we didn't rely on him to defend, because in my mind if you're a wingback you're expected to be pretty good going forward.  Moreso if you're not being expected to help out the defence.  And he's shit.  He's got no understanding with whoever plays in front of him, it's not just Mav.  His crossing is nothing special, he doesn't play through lines or pick out runs.  He can't beat a man for pace, he can't dribble a player.  Making him a wingback is just giving him a free pass to be a passenger.

He's shit.  He was shit when we went down, he went to an easier league, even after CL qualification they didn't want to keep him, he's come back and carried on being shit.  He's a jack shit of all trades, master of fxxk all.

He does okay going forward supporting the wide player. But he wouldn't get in any other side in this league because he has no defensive brain whatsoever. Doesn't sense danger, doesn't know whether the player he's up against is left or right footed, doesn't look what's around him and doesn't know where he's supposed to be in defensive situations.

Kristensen is nowhere near the level required to be a successful PL full back. I’ll eat my hat if he ever develops into one. It won’t be with us if he does.

 

But I want to give him credit he deserves. He is one player I can rely on to always give his all for our club. He has never stopped running. Never stopped working. He gives his everything every game.

 

I respect him for that at least. So many of our squad couldn’t care less.
