We are talking about him being probably 10x what a L1 player earns after the cut.

Seriously, no one paying him the wages we are offering.

If we sell, we will be paying his wages. Russell comes in and tells the board he would be essential - he stays.

Him earning more than League One players has zero influence on what other clubs will pay him, you've also got to factor in personal circumstances, he may need to move as he can't afford to stay on whatever he's on now

At this stage though it might be less about wages and more length of contract. If someone isn't matching the wages but offering him 3 years (for argument's sake) he'd consider it.

If we going to appoint twxt faced Russell, why would we be looking at selling vesty, surely he would be idea in a sideway/ backward /slow passing playing style. There are some element of Percy article just don’t make any sense, but said this is Top/Rudkin managing this process

If you consider what we know.

Thai's wont lose face on depreciating assets.

We incapable of moving players on.
Top likely sees Vesty and Winks as two of our best players because of their ability to pass the ball.  (I think Vesty is much better than Winks at this).

So tie this in with that Top is obsessed with a way of playing, he has looked for a manager to fit some players he cant get rid off, and just keep kicking that tippy tappy can down the road in the mean time.

From the Percy article

Jannik Vestergaard, the Denmark international, has held talks about terminating his contract. The former Southampton defender is understood to not have reported for training since the squad’s return last week as discussions continue over a settlement on his deal, which has a year to run.

where can i find the john percy article?

This bloke genuinely thinks he's better than what he is.

I cannot stand him. One of the worse defenders I've ever seen, only thing he can do is pass well.

True, but that is precisely the quality that Martin would like

Might be but my point was more that is his only attribute. And after contributing massively to two relegations he now wants to terminate his contract that he signed. Absolute ****.

Yeah Enzo really ****ed us there. Crazy stuff.

You can see why it was done, but stronger management says no to Enzo

That three year contract was a complete disaster, should have released him and got a younger player in.

When you look at the business Sunderland did, it just highlights what a disgrace this deal was.

That contract extension was one of the most phenomenally dumb moves I've seen from us. The chances of success were so tiny.

How many clubs offer 30+ players a deal longer than 2 years?

Simple answer, they don’t!

Yet we did exactly that with Jannik and Reid.

Another example of a Rudkin disaster-class!

Especially as he had already proven to be disastrous for us in the premier league

They were nil. The chances of success were nil.

That is one of the defining characteristics of Toad and Smithers' running of the club and one of the drivers of their catastrophic failure and existential threat to our club - persisting with things that have proven not to work or to have too low a ceiling. It leaves down as the only way things can go.

My scepticism of them wasn't as high as it is now but I couldn't believe even they had gone for that. He'd never been anything other than dreadful in the Premier League, was older than last time and under Maresca was beneficiary of playing in a team that could dominate the ball 90% of the time. They had just about gotten through that period with a bit of grace at the end so end up falling for it and doubling down on it. Completely unserious operators.
