Judging from their message boards, lots of Leeds, Ipswich, Southampton fans etc have been pinning all their hopes that AFCON would derail us. They desperately want to believe that the absence of our African players during Jan/Feb will pull us right back into the mix. It’s going to be tough when they find out that only Daka is going…

I don't see him missing AFCON unless he's genuinely injured. It's a major tournament and it's not early in his career (where he might not play) or late in his career (where he's stepping back from international football), but he's in his prime. He's also one who might not even be around at Leicester next season so I don't see him not going out of loyalty

If he is injured then, for obvious selfish reasons, I just hope we get him back quicker than if he had actually gone to AFCON. Him, Winks and KDH are the best midfield in this division and for different reasons Butch, Sick Note and the Dolphin don't quite measure up as replacements. Maybe Hamza, but he's become the cover for Winks and Ricky in the Enzo system

Casadei - Butch Cassidy - An American Gangster, Train & Bank Robber. Sounds like Casadei.

Praet - Sick note, has spent more time unavailable for us since signing than Lee Morris, Darren Eddie and Matt Jones combined.

Akgun - Dolphin is the translation of Yunus from Turkish to English.

Accusations..not facts.

plus Sporting injuries, can be like that..

Ndidi drawn out injury & history wise carries quite a lot of baggage..

He has to be nursed, and their clubs can do it better…

Many injuries today, 40-50years ago career over,

Since PL ( coincidently & slowly) sport medicine has improved

now prolonging careers is more obtainable, but with periods of outages..

I wish that medical  knowledge was there in my day…

An observation more than an accusation and borne out of the frustration as an England fan in the 90’s of seeing players pulled out of squads late.

You are 100% right though about the need to manage small injuries to stop them becoming bigger ones, we know better than most how keeping on playing with a minor injury or coming back too soon can make things worse.  Particularly a player with Wilf’s history.  What is slightly surprising is that Nigeria could have got him to join up, put the other guy on standby and taken 10 days to make a decision.

The loyalty question is also interesting.  Growing up we were always told it was ‘Club before Country’ and while that makes a lot of sense for the class of ‘92 I wonder if it’s the case for players nowadays who have often moved around more?

What I don’t know is who made the decision about Wilf.  Was it our medical staff, the Nigerian medics or the player himself?

Anyway, let’s just hope it isn’t anything serious and we can have him back sooner rather than later.  We were expecting to have him out for 5/6 weeks so anything less than that is a bonus.

Sadly Ndidi is always good for a couple of injuries of a month or more a season. I'd doubt they'd have replaced him if this was just a 2-3 week injury as its still 10 days until the tournament starts.

I think this is a bad one.

Yeah I agree. He’s not going to be available for the Ipswich game else they’d have taken him wouldn’t they?

Get him back for Leeds away has to be the priority. That was the difference in the home game as Kamara walked all over Casadei.

Yeah.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's prioritising the league over AFCON and has withdrawn out of caution more than because the injury would keep him out of the whole tournament.

But I'm assuming he does have a genuine injury and isn't just gonna rock up in our next game with complete troll face on.

I can't imagine he'd do that given he's out of contract soon and nobody appears to be in a rush to renew it.

He's playing his best football in years and seems pretty happy. It wouldn't surprise me if he signs a new deal when promotion is confirmed.

Probably depends what clubs are sniffing around.

There's a very good chance he leaves us in the summer, his commitment to us seems unquestionable this season, but would he honestly do that given the near future?

Maybe, but I can't see why he'd not prefer to skip AFCON for Leicester. With Fatawu you can understand why but not with senior players like Ndidi.

r/Championship was pretty funny last week. For a couple of weeks now, Leeds fans (its all Leeds fans) have been chirping about how we're going to implode because of AFCON (we could lose every single game during AFCON and they still wouldn't catch us, muppets.)

Then we smash Huddersfield 4 - 1 with ANOTHER striker coming in and scoring a brace after we'd pulled Daka out of obscurity to bag a few and the collective malaise of the rest of the chasing pack as they realised they'd been hilariously premature was quite amusing.

Aye.  It’s a Cracker….

In fact with  a Akgun will Travel, & Cannon to the left, and Cannons to the right, wait until its Cannons in bloody front of them..

With us Fatawu..ing them ,then Mavi(didi) men,with a nod & a Wink,leaving them in a Nelson

with scripts from that young  Sir ( Conan) Doyle pre-written, leaving all opposition

in  such a Castadei-lock!!

AFConned our competitors, leaving Foxes Albrighton & cosy in a K.dewsbury-Hall,

dance soon ready to rattle up a Enzo ball Vardy-party.

Carry on like this, we will give ‘em all chance by  leaving the Mads at the door..:bounce:

What a difference half a year makes…We have picked up all the gauntlets, that challenged us,each time a different knight found to ease any challenge.

Each Faes we are prepared and take Vestergaard of all our rescources..

It's like when Thracian told everyone his pet names, you're just lacking a Ricky Sappleton.

Hope Wilf's alright. Any news of a new contract? Be good to retain some Premier League know-how for next season.

There is being derailed, but it would require such a big swing in the favour of Ipswich, Southampton and particularly Leeds that it’s barely credible.

I don’t have the PPG data, but take Southampton as an example. They need 14 points or more than us to overtake us. That’s the equivalent of winning 5 more games than us - which would be 25% of the remaining 20 fixtures. Not going to happen, particularly as now we are only seriously missing Ndidi who is a big miss, but not sure he’s a miss that size.

As we frequently demonstrate - and particularly at home - we can be in first and second gear and despatch most teams in this league. So I think we’ll be fine losing Ndidi for however long.

I have no doubt Ndidi has a 2-3 week injury which would rule him out of most the group stages. So no use taking him. Akgun and Casadei can / will need to step up in his absence.

Iheanacho was billed as ill for his initial absence last week and so i'd be surprised if he doesn't make it to AFCON. He absolutely loves representing his country and they stand half a chance of making latter stages.

The only issue this raises for me is whether Vardy will be fit at any point to rotate with Cannon during January. Would be loathe to just have Cannon for a whole 4 or 5 week period as he could easily get a flare up of his back or associated issue.

Regarding Ndidi. he has been good going forward but has lost about 50% of his physicality over the last couple of years, which must be down to 1 or 2 of the long term injuries he has had. He NEVER thunders into a challenge now and rarely overpowers/massively extends himself to win a ball the way he he used to. His legs used to be telescopic and he mad more interceptions/blocks and tackles than anyone in Europe.  Anyone who signs him now will not be getting 'top 5 Leicester' Ndidi. His mini renaissance is based more on a  'better than expected performance with the ball at this feet, at a lower standard' than it is him being back to Prem dominating fitness/form. Not doing him down, but also think rumours of his reinvention have been a bit over exaggerated!
