100% spot on.

I've posted similar before, saying I can understand why possession and patience is key to 'Enzo's Idea’ but god we are so boring to watch.  I'm half expecting to still see the little clapping toad and his notebook in the dugout still.

At times its like we are afraid to let go once we hit the halfway line. We just stop, and for the love of Christ we have to up the tempo in our play.  Do the passing and keep the possession, but do it faster, and really press forward when doing so. In the Cov match we did it a few times and cut through them like a hot knife, so it's in the locker, just not coming out and being deployed too often.

Yes I appreciate it's still early days and we are a few players short of Enzo's Ideal team, but it pains me to admit that I don't see it changing if his wishes were granted,Yes we will win and possibly get out of this dump of a league, but I fear for our first season back in the promised land if promoted.

I now await the chorus of "back your team, it's to early to say that, we are still a work on progress, transfer business still to be completed, judge him at Xmas" - but I think what we are witnessing now is what we will be at the halfway point of the season, is Enzo's way,  but like I said it's boring.

We need to play like Ange Postecoglou’s team would. Now sure if you followed the current Tottenham manager, but his philosophy is to “never stop” and always play forward, regardless of whether you are winning or losing. He said many times he never wants to play football that his Dad would find it boring to watch. He does that regardless of the team or players he has, whether it is now, at Celtic, in Japan or when he was coaching the Australian national teams (let’s face it, the players he had were second or third division quality but they punch above their weight because of their constant attacking attitude and belief).

We need to get rid of not only the Rodgerism in our team that remains, but stop changing the team and use the PL quality players we have instead of leaving them at home: Praet, Castagne, Soumare, Kristiansen, Daka and get them just to play forward. We have a team above everyone else in the Championship. We don’t need to get loan players in to try to play perfect possession football. Just play forward with the quality players we have instead of wasting them. We are in the Championship!

Cant find the Praet thread.

Is he injured or on his bike?

Picked up a minor injury in training on Saturday according to Enzo.

Posted (edited)

I'm fully behind him but I do feel like we're getting by on individual moments rather than a successful game plan. It's alright whilst we're getting away with it but sooner or later we won't. Still early days of course

Edit: wrong thread

87 points is a bit low for a title win tbh

It's astounding to see the difference in fitness and mentality compared to under Rodgers, where the last two seasons we never looked like we believed we could push to the end and turn 0 points into 1 or 1 into 3. Like, we didn't score a late winner in the league for the last 2 years of Rodgers (final one was Amartey v Brighton in march 2021), we've done it twice in 3 games under Enzo

Blah blah .. But it’s just the same as last season … more nonsense.

Scoring/conceding late goals is a good indicator of final league position. You’re right it’s absolutely shocking thinking back to how the mentality and fitness dropped through the roof.

Everyone read this and appreciate what it’s actually saying

we have 46 league games this season plus cups. Enzo will want to go as deep as he can in those.  Players like winks and Ricky are currently vital to our promotion push. we don’t currently have the creativity higher up the pitch to blow teams away. Come the end of august that may well remain the case. Hence we have to win games by controlling both the tempo and the possession. our defence is not quick enough - so we can’t risk playing ‘basketball’ and having the game stretched.  It may be tedious to watch at times but I guarantee that the opposition coaches aren’t looking forward to having to deal with how we play.   It’s difficult at home to play like this but if we improve the quality of player we have then that will improve.  The crowd have to accept these periods of nothingness within the patterns of play. They are crucial to us outlasting the opposition and also lasting the campaign. away from home it should be easier because the home crowd will hopefully not allow their players to sit off us and that opens up overloads.

Spot on. I don’t like it how the crowd sometimes gets on the players backs if the build up is slow or if we’ve passed though a line but then it goes back to the CB. Some fans need an education and need to appreciate what you’re saying. I think Enzo was making this point in a press conference recently.

Exactly. People need to accept that tactically, football has moved on massively in the last 10/15 years. I’m not saying you have to like it, but getting wound up that the team plays out from the back is pointless. Accept that’s the way football has gone and you’ll enjoy watching it far more

Agree with this, no harm in both Mavididi and Marcal whipping balls into the box from the wide areas. With the players we have arriving late it could be a strong tactic this season

...unless you have picked our a man in the box, then no, this helps no-one!!!

Mavididi playing balls which are over hit to the back post are wasteful, as much as his deliveries from corners. If you have to play the ball into the box it needs to be on the floor. The oncoming player can shoot first time without having to take a touch. This should have been drilled into players on the training ground.

Just got back.

Vestergaard absolute ponderous dog turd of a player. We have to get Coady back or Lurch will drag us down with him. Time after time he pulled the parachute as players just ran off him.

Hermansen, Doyle, Winks, Ricardo all ok.

I would bring Doyle in to centre back and bring Thomas in while we wait for Coady back. Thomas has had enough of a rest post euros now.

Wanya and Mavididi need to be rotated on the right while we get another RW in.

Chair or an AM needs to challenge KDH who maybe can then maybe operate off the right to make the most of his left peg.

Another option is Ndidi and Winks, with Ricardo reverting to operating off the right.

Enzo is instilling the right brave style of play through the middle and is more skilled at it than Ted Rodgers, but the wheels will come off if we dont givd ourselves options

On another day Cardiff could have had 3, but with iheanacho, mavididi and other chances we could have had 5.

Not sure the reason Thomas hasn’t been playing is because he needs rest….

It’s coming together nicely but need 3-4 more in the door to give us more options.

Made it hard for ourselves by not taking our chances and gifting them some. 3 or 4 nil on another day.

on to the next one!

Surely it dropped through the floor? :)

That’s exactly what I’m talking about tho, not aimless, hit and hope looped crosses but drilled balls into dangerous areas

Just in relation to “slow play”.

Would people rather us rest with the ball, or rest without the ball?

Our ability to outlast teams is currently what’s winning us games. We’re fitter, but when you have 65% possession, you can’t operate at 90mph for 58 minutes a game.

True. I would like to see more sudden changes of tempo though. It's obvious in many situations that we don't bring the ball forward quickly. On all 3 games so far there were huge defensive gaps in our opponents especially through the middle. We need a 10 and a dominant striker but I can't see anything on the market.

Also, from what I've seen so far, all the teams we played have treated these games against us like KO FA Cup games. I think all 3 had their best performances against us. It seemed to me they had the mentality they were playing against a PL quality team. It was like "Hey look, recent PL, FA Cup winners are now in the Championship, let's have a proper go at them". I might be wrong on this one though.

Could easily be sitting on 3 points, but we are not, so that's a massive positive. Need a massive improvement in the play over the rest of the season though because its been pretty poor at times.

What’s weird is I have…. I’ve seen a few posters suggesting the fans will grow tired of Enzo’s style. And that is “isn’t much better than Rodgers”….

Having an opinion is great, but finding something to moan about when you’ve managed four wins in a row is weird, as you said……

The way we gain yards when it clicks, those balls from the 6, back to the high CB and then pinged through to the 8s - I've not seen a Leicester side cover the middle third that quickly for YEARS.

Enzo reckons we're at 10-20% in terms of really taking his system on board. I think there are still some hangovers from the Rodgers era, and hopefully the missing pieces include the idea that possession football doesn't mean sitting around the halfway line and passing for passing's sake while the opposition gets set.

Some of the football has been high-tempo and exciting, I'm just looking for us to build on that.

Soumaré is an interesting one for me, he's a player that can move the ball quickly through the lines - must be down to positioning, or maybe he's just not good enough with his passing.

I almost don't want us to improve. These late wins are just sublime.

There just won't be the jeopardy when we inevitably spank someone 5-0 and Mavadidi starts showboating in the 93rd minute.
