Tough match, but we really struggled to keep possession.

It seems their finishing was poor, but I find that for most of our opponents this season, who nonetheless seem to score plenty against other teams. Maybe it's our defence only conceding poor chances rather than their finishing.

We weren't great and made Sunderland look a lot better than they actually are

Eh?

Sunderland looked that good because they actually are.

Worst ref I've seen in a long time and that's saying something! Good to grind out a result in the end but could have been very different if they could have finished their chances.

Wasn’t a very pretty game at all.

We allowed Sunderland to get into us, and we really struggled to hit our stride and gain any momentum at all.

I would be more complimentary of Sunderland if it wasn’t for some of the weird fans I spoke to on the walk back….. genuinely claiming they will finish above us. I thought they were alright, they’re very cynical, very aggressive and rather dirty….. their game plan somewhat simple but you can see how it can cause teams problems. I don’t think they really troubled us in front of goal, they just made it an awkward game, and didn’t allow us to really get into our stride, however, we still won…. And it could have been 3 or 4 has Cass and Kelch’s efforts gone in.

These wins are the best kind of wins, because we still won the game despite Sunderland throwing all they had at us, they were really putting a shift in today, and still couldn’t beat us.

This will be viewed as an important victory tonight….

Ah well, all's well that ends well. Good job to get the result in the bag and another 3 points on the board. If those  shots that hit the post went in it in the first half it would have been a lot more comfortable.

pleased with that win against a very very good Sunderland side;

could have easily been 4-4, at times they had chances then we did too, thought Patterson kept them in it too with his 2 saves in the first half where he got them onto the post

also the ref was ****ing awful, think he needs to go back to the Shire as i think a hobbit went missing

17 points behind us. Six games of victories. And we are nearing a third of the season gone. Maths must be poor there

Here are my thoughts after just getting home.

Fatawu was a real thorn tonight. My MOTM closely followed by Ricardo.

Casedei had a much better 2nd half. Really want him to do well for us.

Mavididi was poor imo. Really didn't look up for it.

The ref was diabolical. I've seen some poor ref performances over the years but his tonight was just laughable

Fair play to Sunderland for giving it a go but the standard in this division is the reason why we kept a clean sheet tonight. Woeful finishing saved us.

Onto the next one

Actually thought Sunderland got away with a lot, another ref would have booked a few of their players for holding, pulling back/down our players and had them skating on thin ice with a second booking.

Still  it showed we can beat such teams even with a dire referee.

Disagree. We were off the pace tonight and made it end to end, and you have to give them credit for having a go. But we could have easily scored 5 or 6 despite playing relatively poorly, which tells you all you need to know.

Was a great game to watch. Concerning how many chances Sunderland had. We need to watch that as if we defend like that against Leeds they may take a few of them.

Thought KDH was MOTM. Absolute class.

Big fan of Abdul and the keeper needs to sort his kicking out when under pressure. Must of gave it away about 10 times in the first half.

Coady in for Wout against QPR

Ref was absolute wank.

Did anyone see what happened to JJ?

Took an elbow to the face that cut him around eye area I think, guessing needed a stitch so we subbed him with 5 to go as hamza was already stripped to come on before it happened.

Thought we played alright tonight, it was my first look at Enzoball in the flesh and I couldn’t decide at times wether I liked it or not.

We seemed to come alive in flashes in the final third and should have wrapped the game up in the second half were it not for poor refereeing and a couple of wonder saves from Sunderland’s keeper.

Love Winks, such a classy player and makes us tick. Lord knows what he’s doing in the championship. Iheanacho was garbage and lucky to stay on mocking the referee.

Sunderland were a decent side and were unlucky not to come away with something. On we march!

The only think they are unlucky about is not to have a couple of goals, but they were fortunate to not concede 6

I don't think mocking the ref is or ever has been a red card offence....

No doubt we were off it tonight, poor in possession from the start and really struggled to cope with their press. Casedei grew into the game which was good to see but we still missed wilf's aggression. Thought the game was made for some Hamza reducers so was surprised he didn't come on earlier. But it was a useful reminder that we won't get it all our own way in this league and I think performances like that will hopefully stop them getting complacent.

What about when Rooney did it?

No idea. A straight red?

Contact with a ref, sure - but clapping a poor decision, can't see it happening.
