Tuna Posted 25 June 2025 Posted 25 June 2025 Dyche interestingly ditched him as soon as he took over at Everton. 1

Coady has only enjoyed success in his career as part of a deep-lying 3/5 at Wolves. Dyche, the most 4-4-2 manager of this era, recognised that straight away.
honeybradger Posted 26 June 2025 Posted 26 June 2025 (edited) We paid £7mil for him 2 years ago btw. Ridiculous fee for a £1-2mil player. Genuinely think Rodgers spouting off about lack of leadership and 'young squad' made the people running us lose their heads and forget about everything else. Edited 26 June 2025 by honeybradger 1

reynard Posted 28 June 2025 Posted 28 June 2025 Free transfer with them covering all his wages is a decent bet?

Claudio Fannieri Posted 28 June 2025 Posted 28 June 2025 A Rangers ITK reckons the fee is £1.8m but will be announced as undisclosed. I wonder if some of the reported £7.5m included performance bonuses linked to staying in premier league. Therefore the 1.8m breaks even or maybe a very small profit for us. 1

Though if he's on more than £50k a week with a year left, that would also save £2.5m on the expenditure (assuming wages can't be subject to amortisation). I'm guessing it will still be a couple of mill as a transfer fee 1

Transfers are never as simple as handing over cash though. Let's say he's on 60k per week and Rangers only want to pay him half that as he's still contracted to us it is often the case that the selling club foregoes or reduces any small transfer fee so they don't end up having to pay off his wages. 2.5 million is 48k per week basic wage but then you need to add on insurance costs/pensions/employers NI etc etc. So may be worth doing a deal that clears him off the books completely even if it means losing a small amount of transfer fee. But I know you know this anyway. 1
sdb Posted 28 June 2025 Posted 28 June 2025 Good news for us. And whoever is in charge of socials at Rangers

Pinfox Posted 28 June 2025 Posted 28 June 2025 He’s popped up again on tv, as a pundit of Channel 4 coverage of Euro U21 final… More media engagements than appearances for LCFC.. 2

STUHILL Posted 28 June 2025 Posted 28 June 2025 I genuinely thought he would be an OK signing for us and a leader that we desperately needed back then. Soon worked out, that he is not a very good footballer and also him being a 'leader' is a bit of myth. He is just a good talker, and very little else. How he got an England call-up, I will never know. 4
Garns77 Posted 30 June 2025 Posted 30 June 2025 Just saw him on his way to the training ground so he's still here, unfortunately...
BKLFox Posted 30 June 2025 Posted 30 June 2025 I know it’s all doom and gloom around here nowadays but I would rather be reading stories of Vestergaard and Faes leaving before Coady. Whilst it was a 5hit show last season I imagine Coady did more behind the scenes trying to keep players together and focused along with Vardy than those 2 ‘look after myself’ individuals would have. 4

I agree with this. Ideally we move on Faes, Vestergaard and Coady, in that order. But if one of them was to stay, for me it'd be Coady all day long. He would be most useful in the Championship next season. To have Nelson, Okoli, Coady and Souttar would be perfectly acceptable for the CB options for promotion. I'd imagine we will lose Coady and Faes, but we'll never flush Vestergaard. He'll retire here. 3
Leicesterpool Posted 30 June 2025 Posted 30 June 2025 (edited) Some saying the deal is off for now for Rangers. My guess it's partly to do with wages, can't see Rangers being able to match even half his wages at Leicester. Saying that rather Coady stayed much rather see Vestergaard and Faes out the door.
