Still think we should be treating McAteer as someone who is in their third season of adult development rather than saying "fully-developed".

I've been more cautious on Monga than some on here, but I was super impressed against Southampton. For 15 years old, his decision making is super impressive, kept it simple far more than I'd of thought he would of but still attacked his full back when he had chance.

 

I understand Ruud feels he has to protect him, but he also needs to be shown how much we value him, or he will leave. I don't agree that there's pressure at 15, not in this scenario when we are already relegated. 

 

I will be super disappointed if he doesn't start a game this season, Ipswich at home would be perfect

I look at it another way. It's unheard of for us to blood academy players under the age of 18-19, often they're even older so the very fact we've got two in Monga and Evans aged 15 and 16 is evidence of the rare talents we have on our hands and our willingness to start to use them.

 

It's also signs of the time it's taken for our success over the last decade, to translate in to the better calibre of academy players we've been able to produce as we grew as a club. This is a golden era in terms of our academy and it's a shame the overall health of our club is at it's worst for quite some time too, but that makes it all the more reason we show the bravery to bring these talents through. We're also going to be playing at a lower level so we have to offer Monga, Evans et al a reason to shun more money and the glitz of a move to a PL side and that's first team football.

 

It's rare for 15 and 16 year olds to play regular 1st team football, most certainly in the top two divisions but the trait common in those who did and were successful such as the Bellingham's, Nwaneri, Chris Rigg, Harvey Elliott, Milner, Bale, Rooney, Wilshere, Sterling etc was they were already physically capable at that age.

 

Monga especially, but Evans as well are seemingly adept to being able to compete against players much older than them and so add in the obvious talent makes the gap to being ready much less than other young players coming through. 

 

I repeat it's pretty much unheard of for us to do this and for 15 year olds to appear in the PL, this doesn't appear to be a publicity stunt. They're outliers but outliers only happen if they're enabled and at this stage I'm not seeing any reason not to consider Monga and Evans as valued first team players next season if they stay. Just to reiterate the special talents, Jake Evans is the youngest player in PL2 history to be top scorer, he's scored and assisted more at his age than Ethan Nwaneri did last season at that level and look at him now. Evans turns 17 next month, he's outgrown PL2 football quite evidently having done the same at U16 and U18 level the year before when we won the U16 PL Cup, Monga being another major contributor to that.

In some ways the shambolic state of the club is fast-tracking Monga and Evan’s pathway to the first team. If we were still flying high in Europe these guys wouldn’t get a sniff.
 

I hope you’re right and we start to give these guys minutes and transition them to first team action. Otherwise what was the point of moving to Seagrave and building these world class facilities. We’re finally getting a pipeline of world class young talent, and we need to embrace that. 
 

I remember when we went down with Basset/Adams and thinking Jon Ashton, Jon Stevenson and Pipes were the future. Pipes was good obviously, but this crop is on another level to what we could produce in those days.

There's a reason that Monga's breaking through now and that's because he's one of the best talents in the country.

 

'He's 15', yes but he's also that good that he's ready, youre just going to have to accept that.

I feel like this is said every week.

 

No one thinks he's the saviour, no one expects him to win games single handedly, stop setting the barrier for entry so high for our academy players.

 

Most of us would just prefer a young talented player to be allowed to have the same opportunities as the likes of Cordova Reid and Ayew, who turn in sub par performances every week. Let him play poorly, let him struggle, at least he will learn unlike the so call experienced PL players we have.

I agree, but I don't think anybody is advocating for him to play 3000 minutes next season

Last season in all comps McAteer had 1300 minutes, Casadei 1100. Wanya Marcal 520, Ben Nelson 411

I think it is fairly reasonable to envision he could comfortably play 600-1000 minutes when including cups too, it would be huge for his development and show a real commitment from the club to have him actually playing a part in the first team squad

I had a tour of the training ground what seems like eons ago.

 

One of the things the operation manager pointed out is that the physical lay out was an indicator of the path to the first team.

 

You've got to hope this is a planned escalation recently and he's lunching with the firsts etc.

 

We really need to speak to our youth and the marginal. People like Luke Thomas are so important to the future. We're not going to attract the likes of Maddison for a while. We need to build them.

Absolute garbage mate, whilst we’re at it let’s write to Barca and tell them how bang out of order they were for using 15 year old Yamal in front of 100,000 fans. How did that work out? If they are good enough and mentally ready why hold them back?

 

Next year Monga should play a rotational role behind Fatawu.

Where did he get carried away? He didn’t compare talent did he.

 

Spain played him as a 15 year old in the European Championships final FFS. Clearly Yamal is a generational talent but it’s all relative as we aren’t Barca/Spain. 
 

The point being, they played a 15 year old as he was good enough relatively for them. We will be in the Championship and Monga will be good enough relatively for where we are at. 
 

You’re saying a 15 year old should be shoved in the u18’s and not put in the first team. Using Yamal and others like Nwaneri as an example of 15 year olds being blooded is not comparing the players in any way other than age.

Not really, he's clearly not good enough for the Championship let alone the Premiership. Not fast, can't beat or go past a defender, poor positioning and rarely makes a pass of note unless it's backwards or sideways over a short distance. He's 24yrs in November and despite having seemingly a good attitude has little or no redeeming features.

That's the one big I'd completely disagree with. His best attribute by far is his ability to take up good positions as shown by some of his goals last year. But otherwise, complete agree. Never seen somebody look so out of their depth in terms of the speed of the game, as he never gets it straight under control and always needs an extra half second. Maybe that will improve but otherwise he's never going to cut it at PL level

In fairness you could say that about a number of our players.
