Brighton regularly underperformed their xG under Potter. It wasn't that they couldn't create chances, it's that they didn't take them. At the start of this season we were outperforming our xG, so there could be a bit of balance restored there.

He couldn't get Chelsea to score either, averaged a goal a game

Just feel like Potter is exactly what we need.

 

We need someone who is willing to build a completely new culture, starting from scratch and taking control. 

 

We're a club that crave identity, we loved being the counter attacking underdogs, when it went well we loved being the possession based overachievers, and to some extent the majority enjoyed being the completely dominent Enzoball Championship side.

 

What we don't need is another stop gap who will just play any tactics to get results.

 

Personally I hope we go all in for him. (and as part of that... move Rudkin into a different role)

Just spoken to someone who works very closely with the board. (FYI - I am not ITK and never claimed to be - person works on the corporate side with the ownership, not the club and just passing on what they’ve heard). 

 

1. it was all Top’s decision. Chelsea was not a make or break game  - however, Top did attend the game (and arrived earlier due to conversations with a certain player he respects). 
 

2. Top will head up recruitment - he never bought into Cooper and was quite disappointed with the appointment from day 1. This does not sound positive for Rudkin.

 

3. Club has a budget for January - for the first time in years, a representative from the ownership attended a recruitment meeting for the January window - the representative was not impressed with the target list (who presented that list was not clear). 
 

4. Top wants a style and felt the club departed from that. He is also trying to be pragmatic. Top also speaks regularly (post relegation) to a certain ex manager who was very truthful post relegation. That ex manager has fed back his thoughts.
 

5. There is a candidate they want. Not a done deal yet.

We're in the top tier and he's an undeniable risk. He may well turn out to be a great manager but let someone in the Skybet take the plunge first.

Steve Cooper has exactly the same credentials.

 

Carsley (or indeed Copper) would be good appointments in the summer before a Championship season. Not so much halfway through a Prem season that's started badly.

Don’t want Moyes but think he’d keep us up. Potter I really can’t make my mind up about, he could be great he could be a mirage. Would rather have him over Moyes but could see him turning out shit. RVN hasn’t done anything of note. I’d really love us to go left field (Jimmy Thelin, etc) but I think the club will probably play it safe.
