Soumare's stats showed he didn't play a significant role in the ligue1 winning season. When Daka was bought in they immediately tried to change him, and turn him into something he wasn't. Lookman was always playing 2nd fiddle to other options, and think he had to get away from Brendan ball to reach his potential. Vesty always looked like a horse unless Denmark played 7 at the back, and Bertrand was his mate with business links to his sons and agent and pretty sure Brendan himself did nicely out of that.

Brendan had this 'ideal' that he could sort out rough diamonds. Most of those signings were rough diamonds that were paid as if they weren't. But Brendan still thought he lived in the footballing world where if something doesn't work, you cast them off and get rid for a loss. Our board were stupid enough to believe Brendan would sort out that lot, turn them into world beaters and Chelsea will come for them all licking their lips.

That's fair enough but I don't remember seeing any negative opinions on the signings of soumare, daka and even Bertrand, infact rememebr seeing opposition fans salivating at our business that summer, but we really let ourselves down in the January windows prior

As per usual, we always chaffing at the bit at the mention of a new signing.

It's only after they've played a few games people start saying, "useless, why did we sign him!?!"

Hindsight, great innit?

I do think we were a tad unlucky, big clubs have had similar with players coming in from abroad and being awful, we have had more than our fair share though, I wonder if there was something we weren't doing when it came to the analysis, the real crime though as we all know, was the contracts.

We paid them too much. Pay Daka 20k a week and you can get rid of him.

As I understand it Daka was on about 7k per week and he managed to snaffle a contract of about £70k per week. He could have been given half of that and it would still have been an unreal deal but given scope to be able to move him on if needed.

I think we were competing with Liverpool for his signature at the time, if I remember correctly? Wouldn't be surprised if that played a part.

I imagine Mr Rodgers advised to just pay it and because with his coaching skills he would turn him into a world beater. The. He just tried to coach him into a different player.  It’s like paying a mid weight developer the CTOs salary because you reckon he will one day get to that position.

Wonder if we will have an interview in the Eindhoven rag or Dutch equivalent of The Athletic, where he finally rages about the shambles that the club is.

If RVN stays after all this time and deafening silence, the Club backs him in the summer window (whatever that looks like, raising funds from player sales to bring in his own players probably & maybe Top providing a bit more cash) what’s the chances that Top & co buckle and sack him, if we make a slow start within the first 10 games.

I just can’t see it working out and that we delay the inevitable. Keeping RVN I think would be more the Board kicking the can down the road to avoid a decision rather than having faith that he is best placed to lead us.

The people who make our signings SHOULD have more informed opinions than that of opposition fans.

They should know if they are going to be played in the system that saw the form that lead to us signing them OR if they could play in the system we would have them playing... Neither of those were the case for Daka and Soumare.

It really depends on what the players think imo, if most back him and only a couple don't then he has a good chance of staying

I think we're in big, big trouble for next season regardless of whether RVN is here or not.  The silence is deafening.

Are we more likely to do a Luton or finish top 6 next season?

It might be a sign of impending mental illness, but I am mildly optimistic about next season!

Luton are definitely the exception and not the path most follow. That said, I think keeping Ruud in post is probably the managerial option that makes it most likely given the funk about the place.

I wonder what would happen if the board stick with Ruud. Are the players on board? They may really like him. Would that mean an exodus? Who would Ruud bring in? Could he get us back up? What if there are no changes to the structure and Rudkin carries on. May be I have got it all completely wrong and this season is a reset but my guess is we would be fighting at the wrong end of the table. It all seems quiet but it would seem RM is not our man. I am relieved at that.

I think what makes a Luton more likely appears to be the option the club are taking, ignore everything until June 30th, Sack Rudd, unable to find a manager to bring in, whoever comes in has no preseason. Meanwhile every other club is building for next year.

At this stage, if that is what they are planning it would be better to stick with the manager. Whoever it is HAS to have a proper ****ing Preseason and it’s a joke that anyone thinks it’s a remotely good idea not to do that.

Agreed. Were not helping ourselves and are now past the date when Enzo was appointed in our last Champ outing. I think we are ok as long as we get someone in for mid-June to align with transfer activity, but we are falling further behind every day.

No we're not. Enzo was appointed 16 June.

I had quite high hopes for Ryan, and just wish he had managed to stay fit for more than 5 minutes.  Still I expect the insurance paid all his wages.

Ah my bad. Thought it seen 3rd somewhere but I stand corrected. In that case, even less need for panic stations just yet.

3rd was when he was appointed at Chelsea I think. It around then.

Hope he is gone by Sunday night this week. Need to move on as quickly as possible now. His lingering presence will continue the rot around the club short term.

Insurance premiums on these players must be as bad as the wages.
