Soumare is going to bag - can feel it in my bones

I’d love nothing more, but besides him hitting the bar against Moscow at home, I’ve never seen him have a decent shot aha

They were terrible that day and Maddison and Youri really pulled the strings.

I'd love to see Bilal and Facundo do something similar further up the pitch with Soumare and Winks controlling the midfield behind - You may say I'm a dreamer

I think Lampard was their manager at the time. Well we might have done if Dyche was still at the helm there but they have more fluency under what I've seen from Moyes and I think a draw there is the best we can hope for! I think that World Cup genuinely ****ed our season up in the same way Covid and the re-start did in 2019-20 - more than the much maligned Rodgers ever did - but of course for persistently playing Danny Ward and Amartey in defence that season!

Similar to Spurs. Nothing much happening first half, then play a bit in the second half. Just hope unlike ar Spurs, we don't go a goal down.. a Moyes side, especially back at Everton, know how to play out a 1-0

2-3 win. Vardy Bilal and an OG

We were a disaster before COVID. Bar that Villa game, it was obvious we were in decline. If anything it gave them chance to sort it.

Those first 7 games we lost of the relegation season were what relegated us, and that was because we hadn't signed anyone and instead of getting on with it - we had a manager far more concerned with preserving his reputation within the media.

Difficult decision for RVN. Mads is a better keeper and our number 1 but how do you drop Jacob after that performance. Nice problem for us.

You answered your own question. Mads is a better keeper and our number 1. He'll be straight back in if available. Jakub will likely get his chance next season irrespective of whether we stay up or go down.

Yes, the battle with Danny Ward might not be as competitive.

Mads straight back in. Jakub has been great but we have absolutely zero room for sentiment.

Just been saying this to my boss now.

It’d be criminal to not start him. Either way though from someone you’re gonna get “should’ve gave Stolarczyk another game” and then if we did play Stolarczyk and lose you’ll get the “can’t believe we didn’t start Hermansen”.

Hermansen is one of the best in the league.

Yeah. Gap between 18th and 17th at the end of the season will most likely be 1 or 2 points again, we go down again and drop points when Mads was available, that's an absolute disaster.

Even compared to other central midfielders, Soumare is in the 1st percentile for shots and the 6th for touches in the opponent's penalty area.

You'd be better off putting money on Mads scoring...and he might not even be playing!

Can see an unchanged team, unless Mads is back fully fit he goes straight back in nets.

0-0 written all over this, neither team create much, both have decent shot stoppers in nets. Only edge Everton have is the set plays I would say, Moyes teams always strong from them.

All told that wouldn't be a bad return, but a win would be huge given we expect Ipswich to turn over Southampton. Dragging another team into it means we would only need to finish 2nd in a 4 team league, rather than top of a 3 team league down the bottom.

I think it's an easy decision for RVN to be fair. Doesn't strike me as the type to let emotion trump logic, at least not this early into his tenure.

Yes, looking at the finer detail then you're somewhat 'on the money' also with your two Rodgers takes in different seasons in a different way.

Re the Covid pt.1 affected season then for me the Liverpool 0-4 at home on Boxing Day 2019 was the more significant turning point (despite some good performances to follow that like the 4-0 v Villa you mentioned), eventually leading to the infamous bottling of 4th to finish 5th from a seemingly impossible position to actually blow it like we did! Perhaps shades of last season under Maresca too with our 17 point lead at the top soon being whittled down by Leeds and ipswich! At least when recent history repeated a year later to also bottle 4th to finish 5th on the final day in 2021 we'd won the FA Cup but even that was a tad false in a way as regards the games being played out in empty stadia for the most part which I'd say had a massive bearing on players performances for all teams! Just my take :)

I can't argue with the nature of B.Rodgers end to his tenure here though, it was definitely more about self preservation for him and his reputation after he wasn't allowed the funds to strenghten - albeit he might have ended up buying more deadwood like he did Perez, Daka etc! Whether he deliberately 'sabotaged' matters in that infamous last relegation season by playing Ward and Amartey most games and making bizarre subs in that opening day Brentford game we were comfortable in, I don't know. Lest we forget we did have that autumnal purple patch though (5 league wins from 8), including the 4-0 v Forest and 0-4 win at Wolves. However maybe our good October-November run of the pre winter Qatar World Cup period would have ended against Newcastle regrardless had that game been played in early December (not on Boxing Day)......as hard as though I'd find it to believe that we could play as we did in that game at home against the Toon on Boxing Day had we not had the continuity of our then November momentum disturbed by that weirdly timed world event! All ifs and buts I guess. Hence my original parallel "disruption" comparison to Covid if you like!

You have to feel for Jakub but Mads is the better keeper.

It'd be shit for Jakub but he already seems sensible and mature enough to realise he isn't the number one keeper and knows he's back up to Mads.

If Mads is fully fit he plays.
