KP love an out of work manager (what's not to like, eh?), so I can't see them going for a good manager who will make a difference like Rohl (Sheff Wed) or Rosenior (Strasbourg). They'll take a cheap punt on Dyche or more likely Brussell. I think it'll be Brussell because he shares their core ethos of ensuring his teams pass the ball round aimlessly until someone ****s up and we concede. He's undoubtedly got a very strong record in this regard and feels like a KP kind of guy.

I suppose what it all comes down to is whether you expect them to completely ignore the lessons of the past few years and carry on making the same mistakes that have led to this horrible mess, or accept that their previous approach has failed and try something different. I understand why many people believe the former, but I’m trying to convince myself it’s the latter - with mixed success.

If that’s what it comes down to then yes I expect them to ignore all lessons, not learn anything, make the same mistakes and repeat this consistently.

This is Top, this is what he does, he has not made any success himself, he has done nothing but encourage a steady decline. If it were not for his father he would not be in a position to own a football team. Let alone have the ability to turn one around.

Rule one: you have the money, surround yourself with experts that could do this? FAILED!

sorry I’m ranting……

feel free to move threads mods. 🤣

Has a manager with one coach (of his own) ever been a success at any club before?

I’m not defending Ruud, he’s absolute pony but curious how him not having a ready made backroom staff wasn’t a red flag to Top.

Alex Ferguson had 9 assistant managers while at Man United.  A great manager can cope with not having his own players, so surely he could cope with not having his own backroom staff.

The problem with RVN is not that he hadn't got a great backroom staff; it's that he isn't a great manager.

I hated the thought of Dyche despite he probably is good enough to get us up but it was the thought of what then as his contract will be expensive and for at least 3 possibly 4yrs he’s not a ok I’ll take 1yr to see if I can get you up manager.

But

We need a reset, what are we, what is the 1, 3, 5yr plan?
It’s proved with STH & Burnley that clubs coming up can’t try to adopt the possession based style that served them well in the championship as you need everyone of them to be comfortable with the ball and generally those are the top players we can’t afford.

We need to learn to walk before daring to attempt to run again, we need to get back to being an old Leicester, Palace style club a club happy to be in the Premier league regardless of position, just stay there. A club that knows what it is, with a squad that is together, no fancy dans just a solid hardworking unit who will lose games yes but make it bloody hard for the opposition but have the ability to steal the odd point or 3 that maybe they shouldn’t have.

So up step a Dyche style manager who will build and fit the brief of the above, we also as a fan base need to accept this, so no more of this nonsense of we should be comfortably in the top 10 or pushing for top 6 like the beginning of this season, that doesn’t show a lack of ambition it shows an awareness of the reality we find ourselves in.

Once this has been achieved we can then look to the future.

I think we will be in for a bit of a shock. Who is going to come in for the likes of Ndidi, Soumaré, Daka, VK on the wages that they are on. I fear that they will just rot here taking the money until their contract runs out.

Absolutely my thoughts too.

I couldn’t disagree more.

Good managers in any trade surround themselves with people who challenge them, you could argue that inexperienced managers are either naive or egotistical if they don’t have an experienced assistant/group of good coaches.

I agree that Ruud is a terrible manager but my point remains, I can’t think of an elite coach/manager, who didn’t have numerous coaches wanting to work with him when taking over a new club.

Could we tempt Will Still?

Sadly he actually watched that preseason friendly. I was a bit concerned for Lens when they only won 3-0 - they should've scored at least 7.

Unless I've completely missed him leaving Lens. I actually think he'd consider us in all seriousness. I quite like him, but I'm not sure he's the answer here.

Except our "chums" from up the A46 have shown what can be done under half-decent management, even in this day and age, at a club of our size (or as in the scum's case, smaller..😄)

If and when we return to the top flight. I hope whoever our owner is by then will have the vision and ambition to match Vichai.

Liam Manning from Bristol City anyone?

Has inherited a group of "good eggs" from Nige, but they are doing fantastic this season to be in play off contention. Play some decent stuff at times with no real stars, seems to favour 3-4-3

Looks like he has done well in his previous roles so far as well

Considering what Manning has been through this year he's done incredibly well.

They still have a lot of fragility, don't score a lot of goals and concede late pretty often, they tire out quickly too.

He's former City group so from good stock, but I think he needs to stick it out for a while at Bristol City.

I don't think it's any coincidence that improvement/success has once again quickly followed behind a Nigel Pearson rebuild!

Bottom will never go for Dyche because of his play style. It would be Ryland and Arry Cockney Winks would be back in love again.

I can't believe anyone can go through what we have this season and think Dyche getting us up and being a bit negative in the Premier League  would not be enough for you.

We haven't scored at home for 4 months!

To have endured what we've endured this season and to still have people turning their noses up at a manager that has two promotions under his built as well as a track record of keeping teams in the Premier League is mental to me.

My only issue with Dyche is that he doesn't strike me as having a great track record of bringing through younger players. None immediately spring to mind other than Dwight McNeil.

Branthwaite at Everton maybe? But yes, it's the biggest issue for me too.

I don't think Burnley fans had many issues with his style of football when they were getting promoted, scored plenty enough, and realistically, it's someone like Dyche who gives us best chance to stay in the PL for more than one season.
