No-one wanted him for free last year. He's been a good servant but we need to get younger and spend less on wages, 9m would be decent. 2
LeePhilpottsBaldSpot Posted 29 May 2025 Posted 29 May 2025 If he couldn't get a better club when available for free last summer, what's he done in the last season to persuade one to pay £9m for him?

CrazyKopCorner Posted 30 May 2025 Posted 30 May 2025 £9m for him seems to be more than a reasonable price to me A fantastic player in his time but I think it's now time for him to move on. 1

Do we know if he didn't have offers from "better" clubs, maybe he did and in the end decided he was better placed staying on with us
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 30 May 2025 Posted 30 May 2025 As previously mentioned, no one wanted him for free last summer, why would they pay 9m for him this summer, after another average season and another injury? 2

Average season in a shit side, we were much better with him in the side (still nowhere near the level, obviously). He's never gonna be a starter but you can see a West Ham or Fulham getting him in as a rotational piece at that price. Only question for me are his wages

Claridge Posted 31 May 2025 Posted 31 May 2025 Not sure what he is good at any more, certainly wouldn’t want him if we was at another club 1

For the wages he will want and how few games he will inevitably be available for, it’d be bad business for anyone spending £9mill on him.
whoareyaaa Posted 31 May 2025 Posted 31 May 2025 We miss him when he isn't playing so don't see how people say he isn't very good, happened last season as well we missed him when he got injured and went through a patchy spell. Still would be good as a DM in the Prem for some teams 1

Let's not forget we were absolute dog shit though. We did miss him when he was out injured but is that a case of him being still being good or just that the alternatives in our squad were absolute horse shit? The thing is of course is that not every club thoroughly checks out players. I think he'll still have a fairly decent rep and could be purchased just on being a known experienced player. Given the fees for players to Prem sides, £9mill would be ok for a squad player for a lot of clubs. Starters fetch 2 or 3 times that. 2
murphy Posted 31 May 2025 Posted 31 May 2025 (edited) There was a time when Wilf was one of my favourite players and I believe his singing saved us from relegation in 2017, but it's time we turned the page on the chapter. I want everyone gone bar the kids and start again. Edited 31 May 2025 by murphy 1

OntarioFox Posted 2 June 2025 Posted 2 June 2025 Wilf's profile screams Everton to me. He'd fit Moyes' approach of being asked to mop up and not do much else. Plus, the Toffees love throwing money around at average players, and Wilf has been decidedly average for three years now. I'd have said he'd be first on West Ham's list under any other manager, but I can't see Potter being keen on somebody who can barely manage a five-yard pass without skewing it to the opposition. If Wilf is still ours by January and Graham's got the boot, they'll be in for him.
Gazza M Posted 2 June 2025 Posted 2 June 2025 Everton, Wolves, West Ham, Leeds. One of those would be a good fit for him.

Because we likely paid a significant sign on fee which may have been around the 5m mark or higher and his wages would have now dropped 30-50%. So financially the package may work out about the same. He’s got a big profile, I’m sure someone will take a chance on him.
