It would be a massive gamble if you really wanted him. There’s far more chance we’ll put the price up than bring it down.

Exactly. It benefits us if the clause runs out, because we can piss about then slowing the process down.

He's available for sale. Brighton want a modest 39 million for him.

Kind of bollocks what they've put there I think.  Dortmund enquired about a loan for him, and Brighton were said to be open to loaning him out again but preferred a loan to an English club due the limitation on foreign loans and already having plans in place for other players.

If they've since said they'd be open to selling him, I don't know.  Everything around the Dortmund move suggested they really wanted to keep him.  Perhaps with Leverkusen moving in and the problems around a loan, they will sell but only for stupid money.

Of his clause is between £25/30m of the kings, and he genuinely has a week of his clause, why would you pay that for him, when you could chance your arm at a low ball wouldn’t you? If you’re a buying club you’d rather wait I think and chuck in a cheeky low offer. You wouldn’t pay that clause unless you were really desperate, we know how good he is, but his stats for last season probably won’t be enough to tempt a clause activation in my opinion.

The clause is entirely for the benefit of the player effectively taking the decision away from us.  We can be lowballed while the clause is still active and accept less than the contracted fee, so it makes no difference there. They can offer £20mill now, we refuse, the clause expires, we don't now magically accept £20mill do we?

It's of benefit to any prospective buyer because they can remove us from the equation.

Surely he'll go for less after the release clause expires?

Why would he tho. If he balls out between now and end of window we'd be mad too

We need the monies?

Why on earth would a release clause expiring mean we’d accept less? It puts the ball back in our court. And we don’t need less money for assets. We need more.

If he goes to Leeds then perhaps we could do a part exchange, Piroe?

Bamford, more like knowing our lot.

We aren't selling him for less than the clause.

I’ve never heard of anyone thinking a clause is a benefit for the player’s current club…

It can be just depends on how much the release clause is

On what basis?

That his release clause expires before our next league game so if he is off, it's surely by the weekend.
