Have we ever received money for one of our ex players due to a sell on clause?

I personally can’t think of any.

I wouldn't think we'd ever know. Clauses aren't something that's generally public knowledge.

Unless Rudders keeps them  hidden up his arse, there’s got to be some dishonest and unprofessional lawyers office  that would spill the beans somewhere surely?

Rudders did very well with the Maresca sell-on clause. Might've saved the PSR issue.

Assuming that Cifuentes must also have something similar?

Think you’re thinking release clause. The OP means when you get future profit percentage from a sale.

You need to have all the cards when selling really, or knowingly realise you’re cashing in an asset earlier than you should.  I don’t think we’ve had many that weve missed out on because we have mostly sold players at their peak value.  Villa recently have moved to sell on clauses as they’ve been selling young prospects at good fees that ordinarily without psr they’d probably have kept.

An example would be if we let mcateer go because of psr but felt that he could eventually increase in value.  I’d rather we didn’t focus on these clauses as it’s essentially an admission that you don’t believe you should be selling to begin with

I think why we’ve not heard lots around sell on is because most of our biggest sales were the “big move”. Next one unlikely with profit unless the player did exceptional things.

Mahrez

Maguire

Kante

Chillwell

Drinkwater

For us to get a sell on, on profit, they’d probably have to move for mega bucks to a Real Madrid/Barcelona.

It’s testament to the level we got to. Also heartbreaking to see how far we’ve fallen.

Will be interesting to see if guys like Maddison, Barnes or KDH move on for profit - all of them have more possibility.

Dewsbury-Hall might bring something in??

Sold for pretty much what he was bought for right? Sell ons are only on any profit made.

Given some of the dross our Recruitment Team have discovered in recent years, I think we should concentrate on introducing 'Sell Back ' clauses giving us the right to send back any Turkeys with refund obligations?

The big sales that we've made have all been to clubs where the player has already hit their ceiling. Mahrez, Maguire, Drinkwater, Barnes, Maddison, Chilwell etc, the clubs that they've gone to have all been the final stepping stone for them. There hasn't really been a middle ground that we've sold to that then leaves them room to move onwards from.

The only one possibly you could argue would have been Kante, he could have gone to Barca/Real Madrid from Chelsea and we might have got something but it never happened.

Doubt it Rudkin probably doesn't know what one is.

Correct.

Like Lineker back in the day...

Everton forked out £800,000 for his services. Lineker was superb, in his first season he scored 30 league goals for the Toffees and also won both Player of the Year awards, but Everton could only finish second behind rivals Liverpool.

His first appearance in a World Cup finals was soon to follow and it took him to the next level, netting a hat-trick against Poland in the 1986 competition and finishing top-scorer with six. His form on the international stage boosted his status worldwide and Barcelona, then managed by Terry Venables, took him to the Spanish league. The fee of £2.75m saw City take around £250,000 from a sell-on clause.

Do we get any money from the resale of KDH? Apologies if this has been asked & answered previously…

Sell ons are normally only on the profit I think, and Chelsea has not made a profit. Also this was negotiated by Rudkin...

Said on another thread we should be due a percentage as the academy development team. Think it was 5%, so just under 1.5 million.
