Haaland wasn't interfering with play and never touched the ball

He's blocking the defender to be fair.

But I still think it was nonsensical to disallow it.

To analyse it to such an extent makes a mockery of what VAR was actually brought in for.

Just read up on Semenyo, frustratingly could've played for England as he was born here. Would be a great option from the left.

And he was in the Newport side that beat us in the FA Cup.

Big rise from him.

VAR was brought in for the OnlyFans, the YouTubers and the betting mafia.

I hated the time it took to make the decision

But I think it’s the correct one

Defender is potentially hampered from clearing the ball by a marginally (but also clearly) offside Haaland

Its the very definition of interfering with play

So "clearly offside", it took several minutes to confirm it!

In the end Man City will feel they got some justice.

Haaland was offside but the question was did Haaland really interfere with the keeper and defender?

Trouble is the time taken - if it takes so long then obviously the officials aren't certain themselves and trying to second guess themselves maybe.

One for the unpopular opinion thread but does the league cup semi final really need to be over 2 legs?

I guess the issue, if it isn't two legs, is the need for neutral venues and fans being arsed to go to a neutral venue on a Tuesday night in January lol

Having said that, of all the competitions that could be exploited, the League Cup is ripe to be targeted for a Spanish Style super cup finals week in Riyad...

Just seen the goal, Haaland is hugging and blocking the defender in an offside position. Not really sure how anyone can argue he's not interfering?

We have no idea if the defender can get there or not because he's being pinned by Haaland as the ball is coming in and can't move. Haaland is only in there on the line to block defenders off as well.

Horrific defending from the Newcastle player marking Semenyo mind, it shouldn't have even got to the point where offside was discussed.

I think it keeps it fair and interesting.

I'd imagine sorting a suitable and neutral midweek venue from the time between the quarter final results and the semi's would be too difficult.

Don't know what all the uproar is about this disallowed goal. The lines are correctly drawn as if Pope was the 2nd defender. People seem to forget the offside rule isn't from the last man.

The time taken I think and lack of knowing what was going on .

Completely agree

Unsure why Arsenal’s wasn’t just ruled out too, though I’m not sure the offside player was grappling the Chelsea defender
