Woke up an hour ago

Checked the Villa result. Next went onto Twitter and see this

The contrast in the health of both clubs is truly depressing. The only thing our club is good at doing is banging on about the past and ignoring the present

To be fair in the time since Villa last won a major trophy, we’ve won 5 of them which is incredible really when you think of it.

Could have been more to be honest. Rodgers semi final against villa in league cup blew it, puel picking a weakened team in quarter final against man city when all other big clubs had been knocked out. Europa conference league semi though were against roma, a competition that rodgers was not aware of lol.

I don't think I understand what you're saying sorry.

Redistributing to the highest co-efficient in the CL makes sense to me. It's not a spot designated for England, it's a spot designated for the cup winners.

If the cup winners have already qualified then I think the fairest option is to give a league place to the next team in the queue in the actual competition.

I mean in the sense that if you go for a position that is said to be 'yours', and you try to get that position knowing you could qualify for the CL if you do, then it seems unfair that's taken away.

It seems like manipulation from UEFA to 'rebalance' but means the bigger teams constantly get picked ahead of the 'smaller' ones.

They doing their trophy parade today? I know they've got a game at the weekend but half the fans will surely not be home in time lol

Given the partying you'd expect Villa to now finish 5th, meaning Bournemouth or Brighton get Champions League right? That pointless last minute goal from Haaland must be a sickener for Bournemouth now.

I think if 6th does get Champions league, they need to go into the qualifiers and someone else promoted to the group stage.

same as Arsenal their parade is the day after the Champions League final so a lot of their fans will still be in Budapest.

You think Villa would do theirs on Monday with it being a Bank Holiday.

I don't think it was ever available for 6th place though. These new rebalancing rules were brought in with the model change last season.

5 spots available from England

2 spots available for UEFA who choose to have the winners of the Champions League and Europa League.

Europa League spot - Goes to team outside league qualification with highest co-effecient.

Champion League spot - Goes to champions of Country that is 11th in UEFA coeffecients. (Champions of 1-10 already qualify directly for league phase)

So that'll mean Shaktar get the Champions League winner spot.

Sporting get the Europa league winner spot.

If we're talking purely on sporting merit then that seems infinitely fairer than a team in England who finish 6th getting a crack at the champions league because another team their league finished above them and won a European trophy.

Emery seems such a nice guy as well, I'm pleased for him to have success here. He was ridiculed at Arsenal. What he has achieved with Villa is amazing, especially when you consider they go far into Europe each season and still compete for top 4.

They were one point above relegation when he took over.  Pretty amazing job.

@StanSP after further reading 6th could well get CL spot.

The wording by UEFA is confusing lol but the Premier League have confirmed.

England get 4 positions.

By virtue of being in the top 2 nations England gets an extra domestic spot.

So if Villa finish 5th. That extra domestic spot will go to 6th place as they have qualified via the Europa league.

If they finish 4th then the domestic qualification supercedes the Europa league win. So that spot will be redistributed to Sporting lol

What a way to spend my day off reading up on this madness

Yeah it's a proper mess to be honest.

It's weird how it revolves around Villa's placing. Bournemouth basically want Man City to win, Liverpool to beat Brentford and then they themselves just need to match Brighton's result to secure 6th.

As good as it will be for Brighton or Bournemouth to be in the Champions League, would they rather be in the Europa and have shot at winning it?

Europa is unbelievably easy to win now there is no drop down from CL. Would enter as one of the favourites.

Our run to Conference League final more difficult than Notts/Villa have had in Europa this time.

It wasn’t the point I was trying to make

We’re basically where Forest were in the mid 2000’s when they’d bang on about having more European Cups than Man United whilst getting hammered by Yeovil at home

To be fair I don't get this from most Leicester fans. We know we've blown it now for a number of years, and the good times are over. It takes a special kind of mindset to have the delusion that the Florist fans had. Few other (if any) club fan bases could have that mentality.

If your willing to swap the last 10 years of what we have seen for the situation Villa are in now your crazy.

Who knows where Villa will be in 10 years and they probably won't win the league, get into semis of CL, get relegated, win the FA cup, community shield and a double relegation  to top it all of!!!

If you finish 6th and get in on a technicality you should start in the early qualifiers. Remember Liverpool, as holders in 2005, had to start in the first qualifying round due to finishing fifth in the Premier League.

Yes but now UEFA give out all these extra positions to boost numbers to make more money basically.

Problem is playing on a thursday night in the europa league certainly affects your league season. Certainly did for Forest, they may have got to the semis but to go from 7th last season to 16th this season just shows how takes its toll. Palace pretty much the same in the conference league. Villa even though they got 4th and champions league they still lost 11 games this season which is quite a lot for a team in the top five.
