Probably to get a fee in the summer

I’d imagine it’s this, he needed to really show himself too good for Newport, like Braybrooke did, and hasn’t.

Maybe a slight contingency too as a 3rd choice striker if we go down

Don't get this extension.

He's not kicked on as expected. Probably non League is his level.

I'd imagine Hutchinson, Evans, Otchere and Alves are all going to be ahead of him next season.

10 goals and 4 assists in 26 career league nineties. Something to work with for a club abroad I think - could definitely shift him for a fee. Given his brief but successful spells in Belgium, you’d hope McCarron might find a home

So we can get a fee even if small.

Well it screams of a club who’s not been watching the player on loan and has just seen he’s scored a few goals.

I don’t think Newport fans would want to sign him so not sure who’s paying for this guy

Nothing fills me with renewed optimism this club is pulling in the right direction again than renewing the contract of a 24 year old Striker  with 2 goals in 20 games in League Two.

Didn't realise he was 24!

This club has such a hard time cutting loses. We paid decent money (youth wise) for him if my memory serves me correct and someone at the club doesn’t want to accept that was a bad move.

I’ve never known a club carry such an ego but it’s the exact reason so may players leave for free when we get fair offers in for them.

we’ve turned down cash for players, knowing they wouldn’t play and that they’d leave for free because we simply couldn’t accept getting less than what we felt entitled to. Iversen a great example. Turned down a seven figure sum because we were using the scale of what we paid for liverpools reserve keeper.

We’ll get a nominal fee and a 25% sell on fee which could net us about 500k in 3-4 years time. I suppose it’s better than nothing.

we seem to be literally scraping around for every penny we can these days..

He will leave us and go loco

He may do but he is currently struggling in league 2 as a 24 year old.

It may be because he's struggling t to return from injury and he manages to turn it around with enough game time but in my opinion he's not worth the gamble and we should cut loose.

Keeping a 24 year Old who is not at League 2 standard is not a good sign

However, with so many people out of contract in the summer and with no money I expect we can actually afford him so may end up being a squad player next season - which is a worrying sign for where we are heading and why are we offering contracts 2 weeks before the sporting director starts

Although he could just have pictures of Rudkin in a compromising positions and Rudkin has rushed the deal through before McCarron starts

Opoku will not be in our squad next season. He's been offered a contract to stop him leaving for free. That's all there is to it.

Based on what? And who is signing him?

Our development players (i believe) are often on higher salaries than League 2 players, so Opoku will surely sit out his final year of his contract... if not at Leicester then on loan with Leicester supplimenting his wages for another season. Average fee for a League player is no more than £100K, so what profit are we likely to make - and that fee would be a decent player when Opoku has started just one of the last 6 games at Newport
