Very difficult to walk into a club like that with no managerial experience. Personally I think he could have a decent career but this job is a car crash waiting to happen

I think he’s been involved in the back rooms of football teams for longer than it seems, what with his football academy and all. I reckon he’s a good enough character to drill some set plays and patterns into a squad and instill some pride in the badge. Whether that translates into results is another story, but it could stand him in good stead for the future, wherever he ends up

A big plus for him is that he knows what it takes to win and I'm sure some his stories will inspire many of the young players at Newport.

Then it's largely down to the players to take it on board and with a few additions of his own he can win a promotion.

New County boss to 'do everything' to keep Leicester loanees

Newport County AFC manager Christian Fuchs says he will 'do everything' to keep Leicester City loanees Sammy Braybrooke and Nathan Opoku beyond January.

The 39-year-old won the Premier League with Leicester in 2016 and he will use his contacts with the Foxes to try to extend the pair's stay in south Wales.

Braybrooke has been a star man for the Exiles this season, while Opoku showed his potential before picking up an injury at Cardiff City in October, but is now close to a return.

"I spoke to Leicester about Sammy and Nathan already," said Fuchs. "I will do everything to keep them on board with us to the end of the season. I think they are crucial in our play, Sammy, especially has done really well and it will be really important to keep those two on board.

"Nathan joined training on Monday, full training, which I was very happy about. He is not there yet to start but he can give us a good few minutes to help us."

Asked about his plans for the January transfer window, the Austrian said: "We had some conversations, nothing in detail yet. Those conversations we'll probably have in the next one to two weeks. We've identified areas where we need to strengthen the roster and it will happen so.

"There are certain areas [that we need to strengthen]. I have a certain way of how I want to attack and those areas we identified very quick and very obvious. But I'm not going to go into that now."

Fuchs, who was beaten 3-0 at Oldham Athletic in his first match in charge, is preparing for his first home match against Barrow on Saturday and he can't wait to experience the atmosphere at Rodney Parade.

"I just got a stadium tour and I love it, it's top," he said. "This is where everything happens and I can't wait to be here and the players to be on the pitch and the fans to be cheering them and supporting them. That's exactly what the players need right now - we need the support of our home fans.

"The first couple of days have been a little bit crazy. But there are good people here and they've made it easy to transition into the job  and everyone has made me feel welcome.

"The group is very positive, I'm positively surprised how the group is engaged every day, and now having a week to work with them on how I want to play it has been great to see how engaged they are.

"I'm sure you'll see a team on Saturday that will fight for every inch on the pitch, that's what we need to do."

Beginning to warm to him getting the job more and more.

Loves the club, and think he said this is his dream job. Would re-set the culture which is essential. But would be keen that he has an experienced backroom staff around him, similar to what Pearson had with Walsh.

Are we serious, a Manager four 4(?) months, kept them up by the skin of their teeth, great achievement accepted, but after Cooper, Ruud, King, Cifuentes, Rowett, can you imagine the meltdown on here if and when we are bottom half next season….great bloke, club legend yes, proven Manager? Sadly not.

He understands the problems at the club and with its culture better than any other prospective manager. He also cares about the club a hell of a lot more than them.

Congratulations to him today. Echos of Nige keeping Carlisle up early in his management career. Leadership qualities in his playing career as a captain following through into management, an intelligent bloke too, knows multiple languages, integrated into new countries as a player, likes a laugh, exudes a good aura. It could be said it's all been downhill for LCFC since Morgan & Fuchs left...

It's just whether he's ready. Maybe he could do with a few more battles, or development of a squad over a period of time. Of course that has to match our Club's strategy, how we're moving in the recruitment market, how restricted our finances will be, if we're a Club capable of competing any more.

Decent shout

Credit to Fuchs, would be an interesting gamble and I'd love to see him here, but if I was in charge of appointing I wouldn't take the gamble on him just yet. He has a very strong affinity to us, so if he has another good couple of seasons and he gets offers from clubs around our level, he will likely choose us over them. So there is no need to rush it.

The difference between our League One campaign under pearson and what we have today, is that if we'd not gone up under NP, we would have been fine, if we don't go up next season, the financial pressures will ramp up and could tip us over the edge if we don't come up quickly. Even our lower earners are going to be near the top of the League One wage table, we simply need to get promoted next season, I don't think now is the right time to gamble on Fuchs.
