Don't know why it pissed me off so much but on the radio earlier they said "the curtain raiser of English football is about to kick off" when talking about the community shield. Er no, the curtain raiser of English football was on Friday between Wolves and Blackburn!

Surprised there is no midweek game, I’m sure last season championship down all played on the Tues/Weds after the opening w/end.

Nope. There were Carabao Cup games in between the first two rounds of the EFL.

If you want to be a pedant about it then surely the curtain raiser was either Wolves vs Port Vale or Wycombe vs Stevenage?

Just saw the sky highlights show,

The quality is honking. So many mistakes from playing out from the back

Is there a link? The LCFC highlights from youtube are a joke, really lazily made.

Haha me and my dad have been messaging back and forth about this after watching the EFL highlights for a few years now. It's insane how many goals are scored due to forcing lower league defenders/keepers to play this way.

Burton game is huge for a bit of momentum. Next 4 in the league - MK Dons, Plymouth, Oxford, Stockport - 4 teams all probably challenging for playoffs at least this year.

We’ll have a much better idea of where we are come mid-Sept

This season I'd have been more than happy to bin of every single player over 22 years old. Sell, free transfers, loaned out, whatever it took to get rid of every single one of them. I would have told the likes of Monga, Page, Motsi etc that they are all first team players this season and they are playing and not leaving until next summer at the earliest. I can stomach us being in league one if the players on the pitch are battling and trying and playing for their future in the game. I cannot stomach watching millionnaires prancing around and not giving a coal pit. I certainly would not have signed the likes of Cullen and Bristric and loaned out Evans and Otchere. No surprise the best players saturday were academy players.

The club is in such a mess. We all know that and there is nothing worse than seeing them keep making the same mistakes. Tippy tappy manager, over paid and under performaing 'senior pro's repeat, repeat, repeat.

Dreading Saturday. Having to watch the same crap i've been watching for years with no light at the end of the tunnel.

It is a choice you make - it's not obligatory!

If you want to be an even bigger pedant it was Tranmere v Rochdale and York v Crawley in the prelim round.

Genuinely did not know that the League Cup had a prelim round. Mind blown.

It hadn’t previously. Something to do with the fact half the PL seem to be in Europe nowadays maybe?

Edit:

Yep, that’s the reason

Because the 2026/27 Carabao Cup has an unusually large number of Premier League clubs playing in Europe.

Normally, the EFL Cup starts with the 72 EFL clubs, with Premier League clubs joining in later rounds. But this season nine Premier League clubs are in UEFA competitions. That means those nine clubs don't enter until the third round, creating a numbers problem: there would otherwise be too many teams in the earlier rounds to arrive at the required 32 teams for Round 3.

I keep seeing signings and I feel like everyone is getting stronger and we are just pinching our pennies and hoping for the best.
