Ranieri was lightning in a bottle, it worked but it really shouldn’t have  done, 16/17 was probably what we get more often than not if we make that decision 100 times.

 

Martin isn’t the only manager that would rebuild the club - we had to rebuild as we have something 34 incomings/outgoings. He’s not been as pro-youth as he looked like initially. It’s likely Alves and Braybrooke would played anyway due to their progression and lack of depth, Skipp’s red forced him to use Page. Our RBs just are youth players, no other option. We’ve finally had a manager pick younger players but it’s out of necessity, our league XIs haven’t actually been that young.

 

10 games in will just be more of the same. Give Martin 15 games or 150 - it’s still error strewn crap football that doesn’t really unsettle opposition defences.

 

The club have been crap but lots of middling managers would have us, at worst, in the top 6 with this squad.

 

Henrik Pederson has had a much harder job than Martin and Sheff Weds are 4th. What excuse is there for Martin?

Exactly the same as Gary Rowett last season. Protects himself, pushes responsibility away. I can understand that to a certain degree, but it says a lot about the stewardship of this club as well. I think a lot of the hate on Martin is stupid you’re saying we don’t attack enough or quick enough. Maybe it is a slower build up but what he said in the fan recording of him is true we have had 135 shots in 5 games which is way more attacking then we had in a while under the last 3 managers. Yes we are not taking our chances that’s on the players to improve that and take more of them. We will win more games I’m sure just get off his back it’s just sad. Also no matter what manager we have had even enzo included your never happy.

We have to get promoted another season in league one would be unthinkable really, and would lead to administration.

 

As far as Martin is concerned, it remains to be seen if he can deliver that target of 90 points which wouldn't be enough for automatic promotion, we need to go on a winning run and if Martin cannot deliver 3 wins from the next 3 games we should sack him.

Except it’s not 135 shots he’s made that up. A quick google search tells us that. 
 

And if we take his figure at value, then 25 % of those shots were against an Under 21s team. 

 

Those players you mention, he signed, which is another reason why he’s not a very good manager

33 shots on target or 6.6 a game is a better way of looking at it. 

 

12 goals (with 6 of them against Children....)

 

We're shooting in desperation, or a late header on a delayed cross. We're shooting into crowds of players and not being able to find angles a goal, hence shots going wide. 

 

Also about 6 of those shots on target are Watson pea rollers  

 

He's also had the audacity to say 5 games.... so he's felt it okay to include the 4-0 humiliation against Oxford...

He doesn't say it directly but he certainly suggests that his style of football is very close to Enzo's. 

 

First, I don't think it is really. In the 2023-24 season, runners from deep to overload the opposition were a big part of our success, which is why KDH was our top scorer that season. I don't really see that under Martin, the system is less fluid.  The main similarity in the systems is they both emphasise possession, but the degree of risk taking in the final third was much higher under Enzo from what I've seen so far. 

 

Second, we had much better players under Enzo so the system just about worked, apart from when it didn't and we looked horrible. We had the best squad in the division and financially doped to get that squad, so promotion was the bare minimum expectation (much like this season). We also had a much better goalkeeper who was comfortable with the ball at his feet. I liked some of the football we played under Enzo, and he's clearly a good coach, but we lost 11 games that season which shows the flaws in that kind of system even with the squad we had.

Lots of shots =/= attacking

the football is slow and ponderous, allowing the opponents plenty of time to get into a solid defensive shape, and the shots taken are speculative efforts from long range and/or poor angles which are very unlikely to go in because they're so easily defended/saved. How many of our shots taken are because the opponent has scored early on, knows they don't have to attack any more because we're so impotent going forward, so they pack the box and switch their focus to defending all of our weak efforts?

As Shen said here  we're ranked 22nd for xG per shot (average of 0.09xG per shot) which is atrocious – and we're just as bad in in the shots that are converted (8.33%, ranked 18th).

A competent manager doesn't set his side up for failure like this – they would ask themselves how they can improve the shot quality and reduce the number of pot shots so that the attackers have a better chance of scoring. Russell doesn't do this, he just doubles down on his dogma.

Combine that with him ignoring that a team has to be able to defend to win games, rather than concede 2 every match, that means "we'll win more games" isn't going to happen any time soon.

We've already found the OPTA stats and proven the numbers he mentions in the fan video are nonsense. 
They're also completely irrelevant when we don't 1) score or 2) win and 3) keep conceding stupid, avoidable goals even to much inferior teams.
We've played awful football since Enzo, whose style never endeared him to the conservative fans, but it was accepted when it got results. 

Blaming the players is also a bit of a cop out. As already pointed out, we're actually scoring about the number of goals that we should based on the number and quality of chances that we create. 

Stop pointing the finger at fans and start pointing them at the useless stewards of the club who are overseeing this and are making the same errors over and over.

This is very disingenuous.

 

Firstly, I don't think anyone is complaining about youth being played.  It is the tactics hindering the team that concerns people.

 

Secondly, this is not a rebuild.  Circumstances have forced us to get rid of as many high earners as possible, the wages being unsustainable in this division.  This was not a choice.  Recruitment has been poor yet again.  Filling in gaps with journeymen his mates.  That is not my idea of a rebuild because there is no forward planning.

 

To deflect what is happening on to the fanbase, as if we are the problem, is ludicrous.  Such is the mismanagement of this club, the fact that all we do is moan a bit on the internet shows how passive and restrained we actually are.

To be fair I dont mind him saying we've been shit. We have been.

 

His point is totally irrelevant though as he has been able to basically build his own squad using funds unavailable to any other club, bar maybe Wednesday.

 

Id love to see him in international management. He could take a country on a generational losing streak with the time he apparently needs to make his teams not look well below their standard.

 

Cant believe the club have thrown the kitchen sink at this season and decided Martin was the man to ensure an average job is done.

 

Getting promoted under Martin would be grim as I fancy there wouldnt be much money to play with and we would just be taken apart on a weekly basis.
