The old 'given time' cliche, reserved purely for possession managers.

Almost as though we are expecting a rough start but why? He will.have a full pre season, we are two months from the league campaign beginning. Maresca had a great start, even Cifuentes did ok in his first six results-wise.

Why shouldn't we expect a good start?

I'm not a fan of possession based football and there were many games under Enzo's leadership that bored me. However, it was successful for that season. Why, because Enzo had enough quality players to make the system effective. Enter Russell Martin - same doctrine with far less quality available, even with a good transfer window, high technically gifted footballers aren't going to join a L1 club. So I think we'll see the same philosophy he's adopted at every other club he's managed, yet within the first 6 weeks frustration creeps in because the players can't apply his philosophy and it all goes pear shaped with us sitting mid table, angry fans and players who don't know what they are supposed to be doing.

Enzo’s team didn’t have to run around v much because technically they were able to keep the ball

if Martin can get this lot fit enough to run round then he’ll cope

if not, then it falls apart

and top will be asking rudders and glover why the players can’t do it when that was the basis for signing them.

What facts are being ignored?

In an ideal world we all want Top to sell or atleast have Rudkin permanently removed. It ain’t happening any time soon.

Refusing to completely write off a managerial appointment before the blokes even started is hardly ignorant to any facts.

It’s almost like we have access to his managerial record. Also, it’s a fact that this board won’t give him any players to do anything with. Refusing to write him off is blind optimism, he’s shite and we’re shite, we all know how this is going to go

He is a shit manager whose teams play shit football in my mind, some of the worst football I’ve ever seen in the premier league at that.

He's going to have to earn the benefit of the doubt from fans with early results else it could get ugly fast.

Who is this Josh?

He seems even more of a bootlicker than the usual Mercury and Radio Leics brigade.

Sickening.

You'd have thought that given the team still has players with PL and CL experience, and are overwhelming favourites for promotion (so someone thinks we win a lot of games), the 3 year contract, and the fact that Top and Rudkin clearly love him, he'd be at much longer odds, but apparently he is 12/1 to be the first League 1 manager sacked.

The bookies have Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday and Port Vale reaching for the chopper ahead of us.

I am dreading this appointment but if he brings in a full back room staff.

That is one very small positive, we need to drain the whole coaching staff, fitness, goalkeeping etc etc.

Kingy probably only just stays on for consistency.

If we spend another season unfit, then surely as fans we could contact trading standards for paying to watch “professional footballers”.

Announcement should be later today.

likely get a Gary Rowett post first, then this announced.

Including who else is staying and going? Needs at least someone with him who can challenge him when things not working.

I will support whoever the new manager is , because I want my team to do well. My concern with Martin is how much are we paying him? Whether we like it or not he has been paid as a Championship manager/ top Scottish manager recently so to drop down to a League side on those size of  contracts would be just wrong for a club in our financial position. If it’s a low basic with higher incentives if we go up then I will accept that, Champions Again Ole Ole

its probably more asking fans not to go mental at the first miss placed pass or missed chance, basically asking for the atmospherte not to be toxicfrom the off as it was at the end of the last season

Gave me the willies the first time I ever heard him talk about his footballing philosophy and almost every interview i've heard from him since has left me a mix of anger and astonishment. It's his delusion and borderline superiority and arrogance that I just cannot turn a blind eye too. Go and listen to his post match comments in the home and away games we absolutely destroyed his Southampton side under Enzo if you're in danger of getting all misty eyed. It was staggering.

The scary thing is, i've felt that from him when i've had absolutely no skin in the game as he's been at other clubs and I should have found it funny if anything like I do when i've heard the likes of Nathan Jones and Liam Rosenior but I just knew he'd end up here. I've never been sure of anything in my life.

I wish him no ill, I really hope i'm wrong about him and it's been a case of mistaken identity but people can fcuk off trying to patronise me that we can't form these opinions on someone. It's a basic human trait that might be wrong, might be right. Does he deserve a chance? Not for me he doesn't but what choice have we got now?

What I cannot get my head around is his footballing philosophy has had quite appalling success and yet his belief remains undeterred. He wasn't successful at Southampton, it was nothing more than par for the course and was then an abomination in the Prem. He did OK at Swansea but MK Dons his team instantly improved when he left and Rangers goes down as one of the worst managerial stints in the modern era.

What body of work there can give grounds to him being considered a dynamic and successful manager or that his foorballing IQ is unequivocally the way to go. He'll never land a job with the environment or resources in order to support such ideology so it's pointless. His best solution is to use the experience he has in the game to get the best out of the opportunities he does still land and see if that fairs better.

He recruits pretty well, gives young players a chance and can build a bit of a unity if players buy in to his authority so harness that with tactics that are not reckless and ill suited.

My phone will go out the window an'all when Gary Lineker lauds this a major coup.

A dark day for this football club, which is actually an achievement in itself given the bar they've set in recent years.

I'll be even further on the periphery now to save my own sanity. All the best for those who can still support it.

Anyone who has been a football fan for 10 minutes or more gets that virtually all managers have a level at which they are capable of success.

Martin has proven he is utterly sh!t at prem, championship and Scottish prem level, maybe Div 1 is his level after his recent experiences(unlikely I know).

But what happens IF we get back to the championship and he's back to his usual level?

Another sacking?

More compensation?

Or no money for either and back to div 1?
