I didn’t enjoy the Enzo season. Vestergaard walking around, rolling the ball under his foot, 10 passes around the back before we got anywhere. Rigid, dull football. The only team that season to have more possession than Enzo’s Leicester….. Russell’s Southampton.

Just the man we didn’t want.

It's a shame that STs sold out as that just reaffirms to the owner and senior management that they can get away with whatever they want

Exactly, that was just the vote of confidence they'd have hoped for.

My bet is that we've now reached agreement with West Brom to release Gill and there'll be an announcement tomorrow, saying he's coming as Martin's Assistant Manager. I think Rhys Owen will also be there. Parker is very unlikely and I reckon Begovic will stay as Goalkeeping Coach, so no Thornton.

As to who Martin keeps from the current backroom staff, Kingy yes, Hughes probably not (hopefully) and I can't remember who the current Analyst is.

Think Gill isn’t under contract at WBA, as originally signed till end of season, he had an offer on the table so likely to have had the choice of either option. Maybe taking longer to get anyone else coming out of other clubs.

Didn’t want him, don’t like the style of football ( Man City bore me to death ) . But looking for positives, we have been building the club , from kids upward on this style of football, but since Enzo due to the poor selection of managers have never played it at first team level, in the premier because the quality opposition doesn’t allow it given our shortcomings, last season because our quality dropped both on the pitch and off it.

We are the big fish next season and wouldn’t be able to counter attack against teams sitting in, so hopefully Martin’s more dogmatic tippy tappy ( our othe managers since Enzo played at it ) can play through these teams and get us back up, and the momentum gained can propel us the next year too.

Grasping at straws I know but he needs a very good start to win over the fan base.

The other plus point is the players seem to like him and his style of play. And hopefully he plays most of our kids.

Sooner he's appointed, sooner he's gone, sooner he stops being linked with the club everytime the job comes up.

Small wins and all that.

Through the lens of King Power and pals needing to leave our club, this appointment actually moves it on quite a bit. If his reign is as bad as we expect, it will help to turn a lot more on the fence City fans against the ownership as well as put KP under great media scrutiny and financial pressure. That sounds ok to me. If Martin proves us wrong and actually does a good job then we get some respite from the decline.

They’ve managed to appointment a manager that even if he does well I’ll still hate the appointment. Bravo.

It’s taken them weeks and weeks to appoint a free agent again - we’ll need 10+ signings but likely get 7 or 8. Sclerotic club.

They truly think we’re going to have 80% possession each game because we’re ’too good’ for the level. Can’t wait for the video of Top showing him round the training ground too 🤥

Birmingham city spend £15m on a striker!

Would you trust our recruitment team with £15m to spend on a striker though?

@GLC - does this make you ITK? lol not in a good way though.

I’m not sure I want that title lol

Which of our current players suit his style? Vestergasrd, Winks? I cannot see Thomad, Okoli, Choudhury and Stolsrczyk becoming comfortable metronomic passers. Plus we basically need a whole new attack.

It’s one of them appointments that you know he’s only a bad couple of results away from fans turning on him all the time.

He could go on a 20 game unbeaten run and follow it up with 3 defeats on the bounce and the fans then only remember the losses. He’s got a heck of a job to get the fans on his side.

Sounds like we've gone for idealism over realism.

Before appointments like Martin are made you have to consider- Do we have the players for this appointment? Will we be able to find players before August for the appointment?

I've just ai searched Martin v Maresca style of play and it tells you exactly why this appointment is lunacy.

The club has absolutely no idea what it’s doing and it’s severely depressing. I feel like they’re punishing us.

I just want to enjoy watching us play again. I don't want endless possession and passing around the back in league 1 ffs

Just as Southampton announce their retained list so I guess we can expect 1 or more of the following; Ross Stewart,  Oriol Romeu, Will Smallbone, Alex McCarthy, Joe Aribo, Jamie Jones, Charlie Taylor as all will leave Southampton this summer.
