Terrible deal if true I think his book value is about £5m based on my calc that we probably paid £12.5m as guaranteed and the remainder in add ons, which will not have been achieved, so we should make about £500k plus getting his wages off the book. Also he signed a 5.5 year deal so it could be that we wrote off his first year amortisation in the June after he signed, which could mean his book value is lower than my calculation. That’s a shame tbh I thought he was one that would actually put in a decent performance considering how much we’ve fixed his injuries whilst he’s been here. brookfox Posted 31 July Posted 31 July Big initial fee and we’ve got 6 appearances out of him in the last few years with a loan and injuries. He’d have been a big asset had he stayed but another wage off the books and we can hopefully replace him with someone who wants to be here. 2
lcfc sheff Posted 31 July Posted 31 July I get he’s had a decent World Cup but his injury record has been atrocious. There’s a big risk he gets injured again and we get no money for him. Also don’t think he’s appropriate for the style of football this club wants to play 4

Terrible deal if true Remember that real life isn't Football Manager, though, and your wage budget and transfer budget aren't two separate little pots existing in isolation of your finances. Even if it is a marginal loss on his remaining book value (and a reminder that that doesn't strictly matter this year) you also need to calculate what we were going to pay him in wages that we now aren't. Assuming he's on 20 to 30k you're looking at 2 to 3 million more in savings. And the League One spending rules are preoccupied more on your running costs vs revenue as opposed to the net profit loss you make the same way the Championship and Premiership calculate things. So frankly, just dumping him off the wage bill is a win. And whilst it's not been explicitly stated publicly (except by Yahoo and The Star which aren't exactly tire 1) that he's handed in a transfer request, that usually only happens when an agent is trying to leverage public opinion against a club that's refusing where as we seem quite content to let him leave. It's been wildly reported he wants to go so he absolutely may well have internally made a request that voids his loyalty fee. So, all in all, the package seeing him go probably isn't terrible. 8

Equally if the news of a transfer request is in, he's probably accepting lower wages and scrubbed his chances of a loyalty bonus as per Finners says. Fair play if the case. 1

He got told he wasn't in Wilders plans a few weeks ago Wilder has spoken openly about wanting to get Souttar in and MM out My guess is we will have a new CB in by Monday, Souttar won't be risked tomorrow (or even in the line up) and he'll be at Sheff Utd by the end of the weekend. 2
