Brighton and Bournemouth - teams who have taken our place in the good chain - don't sign many players over 25 with no upward sell on value.

That's a myth. You do need some experience.

There’s clearly a balance needed between youth and experience.
I just feel it’s dejavu with getting rid of past it players like Ayew and Vesty and ending up getting injured plagued players in as replacements.
Our financial situation or lack of it isn’t going to get any better with giving 30+ players 3 year contracts.
Our recruitment seems to consist of searching google as to who’s recently played in the championship or premiership and featured it seems to have played for either Southampton or Ipswich.
Nothing seems to be thinking long term and everything under KP is a short term fix.

We have offered him a contract, LFTV said he was having a medical.

HS was info both myself and a different person had been told. Can only share what I’m told.

but if it also helps. I said we’d get RM first, Chaplin and the Ings deal was off. 👍

Think I could’ve told you we were gonna end up with RM a couple years ago mate, it was inevitable. Ings deal being off was just a bit of common sense with how long it took. Will take my hat off for you on Chaplin though.

While three years isn't ideal. It shouldn't be a disaster. He won't be on Vestergaard or DVD (??) money so if we feel the need to move him on after two years, we should be able to due to his more manageable salary.

If for example, he doesn't get much football in year two. He could accept a lower paying contract elsewhere & we could pay a few grand to make up the difference. It wouldn't cost a fortune. This has been fairly standard practice in football since time immemorial.

Fact is that players in their thirties look for longevity in their contracts. Some even take pay cuts to get extra time. Burns wouldn't have come here for less than a three year deal. He wouldn't drop two divisions for a one year or two year deal.

Brighton do , Milner & Welbeck, they had Murray for a good few years when they got promoted

Obviously we are short (not a reference to Burn’s height) at right wing and I can see that an experienced player compliments the younger Alves if this is the position earmarked for Alves.

Can’t say the bad injury at his age isn’t a concern. It’s no good if he is a glorified cheerleader on the physio table. But we did pull the plug on Ings so there’s hope that the tests have been more robust. If Alves and Burns can stay fit between them it should be ok.

Also seems like a decent character which is

the difference on face of it with the more experienced players we are signing now. But it does remain to be seen how much the culture has really changed and how motivated they manage to stay when at the day spa.

On the face of it, a team with Chaplin, Cullen, Burns etc and the likes of Watson, Alves, Braybrooke should be able to be really strong at this level.

I doubt we have the recruitment network for that, they wouldn't know where to start. Look at the minimal amount of overseas players we've been linked with this summer, the pool of players we'd need to scout and identify is likely a mystery.

Bristric is quite possibly an agent recommendation based on some of our rivals in League One who have been scouting him. A certain team who have signed and developed a few strikers in recent years that have been sold for big money (relatively) to higher leagues wanted him but we have apparently offered a lot more in wages.

Bristric I can only assume is a McCarron link, sort of signing I'd have imagined a club like Lommel would make.

We had a similar sort of mixed bag under Maresca.

You're right though as a general rule. I don't think we have a clue and it's reflected in the desperation like this. Desperation never leads to anything good and we're always seemingly desperate.

There were definitely bargains about the EFL to be had. Not just throwing a load of money at another player on the way down. If the £20k thing is legit, which like I often say would be very on brand, then ****ing hell. That's £3mil committed to a player who you've got no chance of a penny back on who has a reasonable chance of being finished pretty quickly. It stinks.

The same person did also say that we'd offered Adebayo a contract and was at Seagrave on the day that he was playing for Bristol City and that Souttar had already signed with Sheff Utd and his medical was over the weekend just gone so I wouldn't take it as gospel

Haha fair point

Quite surprised that people are so comfortable with giving a 31 year old Wes Burns a 3 year deal (assuming that is the case). On a 1 year deal he makes sense, 2 year deal would be a mistake but manageable. 3 years in our current situation is reckless and a sign we've learned absolutely nothing from our mistakes over the last 5 years. I'm struggling to think of the last signing we got right in this age bracket, maybe Evans and before that Cambiasso?

Clubs like Brighton can afford to pick up a couple of experienced lads here and there, because their model means they'll also be signing however many players they'll make money on to keep the club ****ing running.
