I think you have to wait for the third season given the concern was about giving him a three year contract. 🙂

Irrelevant. if he has a phenomenal.season this year and next year he can sit on the bench and eat larb rolls for all i care

Jesus.

How have we been in this mess for years now and people still think the transfer fees are the problem.

We've just signed a contract with Burns guaranteeing him over £2m and tieing him to our weekly wage bill for 3 years.

He's a 32 year old man that isn't a particularly stand out player in the league above us, that we're looking to get back to, who has a poor injury record and will be 35 by the time the contract expires.

Wes Burns as a player for this season? Yeah alright, not bad, especially with Chaplin here too.

But this actual deal? It's just more honking, short sighted business.

It's not the signing that's the problem as far as I'm concerned. It's what we haven't signed. If we've signed all four of Cullen, Watson, Chaplin and Burnes on top of having Alves, Page, BDR and Mavididi and we don't sign a central defender, a central midfielder and a couple of strikers, that is poor squad planning. I'd go as far to say it's negligent to stockpile players in one area but leave ourselves exposed in others. I accept that the window isn't finished yet, but I'd hope that we'd prioritise signings that we need rather than players we want in areas where we're actually quite well covered.

The more I think about it the more I see the parallels between this and Watford signing Lloyd Dyer.

He'd had a similar impact to us to what Burns has had at Ipswich. Similar style of player, direct winger. We'd just been promoted to the Premier League and he left us because we only offered a year while Watford offered him three at a lower level.

Now the difference is we're a league lower than Watford. Lets just hope it doesn't work out the same way.

To be fair, Dyer went on to do very well with Burton in the Championship after Watford.

Burns should still be excellent at this level.

I'd completely forgotten this tbh. I remember him not having great reviews from Watford or a loan at Birmingham. I'd also never realised he'd ended up at Burnley.

Exactly - if he makes the difference between us going up and not going up - whatever wages he's on will be money well spent.

Or maybe they're just buying the players they feel will be beneficial as and when they become available.  There's a lot of window left, i'm sure we'll see ins and outs before then.

An Ipswich fan here. You have now got two heroes from out team. Wes and Chappers will create great things in League 1. Definite promotion. Good luck LCFC for next year

I'd rather you were right and I was wrong, but if he's on a 3 year deal this is a shit signing.
