I called this as an away win as I thought Stockport might have the confidence to make the mistake of trying to play.  

 

Thats not the way to beat us.  They should have studied the blueprint that allows lesser teams to turn us over.

Ye, in the brief highlights, I picked up on the ease at which they crossed the ball. Defo. need to sort the centre-backs out, but we need the full-backs to step up on stopping crosses.

Completely agree - if Martin said this we’d quite rightly be asking why he didn’t set up that way and that he’s too wed to principles.

 

Its rambled moaning from a coach who’s seen a missed opportunity.

As a plus, Kangasniemi calmed everything down for us and the crosses stopped coming in. He's going to be mega for us.

While I agree in general - I don't think we can say we were lucky that two goals were correctly flagged offside.

I think it was the accountability that at least came out of his mouth that I liked.

 

In his defence, that match happens another 10 times and they win as many as they lose.

I'm a lot more positive today. That's a massive win against one of the best sides in the division (that we're in this division in the first place is a different conversation).

 

It's our biggest away win in a long time and a monkey off our back. 

 

Stockport had plenty of chances and we were clinging on by the skin of our teeth, but we did hang on. They were able to throw caution to the wind because we'd gone 4-1 up, which is a positive in itself. 

 

The last 10 or so minutes were a lot more comfortable than the previous 30, in part due to the last set of changes RM made.

 

Need to back in up with a result at Barnsley. Win there and we can go into the 3-week International break (the **** is all that about?) with plenty to build on.

Both against Plymouth and Stockport the wins have still left the distinct impression we were lucky to get away with all the points. This and the negative results leave me very concerned that we will struggle to get up the league table.

L1 you cant take this for granted, exemplified by Oxford's first goal last week which came of an arm. 

 

We've far too many chances for the opposition in our games this season.

Only saw the highlights.

Great play from Cullen, Page and Riis up front. Have we finally found a decent striker in Riis?

Feel like all 3 Stockport goals were avoidable and especially Luke Thomas looks like a weak link, we can't afford to play anymore. Souttar and McCarthy not looking sharp either. But Stockport could have scored on quite a few other occassions and we as usual look very soft on defending set pieces.

I live in naive hope, that someday I might again witness a Leicester City team, that can actually defend. It will probably be a while though. Normally when a new manager comes in and takes over a team in dissarray, they sort out the defense first and makes the team harder to beat, but somehow Top and Rudkin have managed to find every manager, who cannot organise a defense. Its actually quite impressive.

Absolutely, they also hit the post, crossbar and had a goal cleared off the line. Very easily could've scored 5+ goals.

These three are the weak link in the execution of this style of play on top of their poor defensive capabilities.  The first goal is typical Luke Thomas defending, spins around, backs off and allows the shot or cross.  He doesn’t seem to know how to defend, doesn’t close down the space and attempt to press or tackle. 
 

These three will keep getting picked and the same will happen.

Why do we have to play Thomas is my question. It’s like he’s completely undroppable, and yet quite clearly a huge issue in defence

This is conjecture but I think the higher ups like Rudkin see him as an experienced academy product and some sort of poster boy for the club and players. There is no other reason, it certainly isn’t for his footballing ability.

 

Our higher ups are that brain dead for it to feel real.

We’ve just had absolute nuggets in charge of team selection and recruitment.

 

the only one in those positions with any sense in the last 5 years is Enzo, who decided very quickly that Kristiansen and Thomas were shit and he needed complete alternatives.

 

everyone else has gone off past reputation from his very early days under Rodgers and felt there is a player in there.

 

He’s a complete liability - I’m not utterly convinced by McFarlane either tbh, but Aluko is surely worth a go
