Barnsley (A) - Sat 19 Sep - 12:30 KO - Pre-Match Thread

I'm a Leicester fan who happens to live in Plymouth. I've got a Plymouth Argyle season ticket and was at the Argyle match today. Argyle battered Barnsley who were second to every challenge / ball. When they did get into a good position they're shooting / finishing was woeful.

They also like to play tippy tappy from the back with both full backs taking any goal kicks and passing the ball around in the 6 yard box (sound familiar?!)

Barnsley struggled to get out of their own half and when they did it was a hopeful long ball up the pitch.

Argyle pressed them very high up the pitch and outfought them everywhere.

If City are physical and work hard and Barnsley play like today we should be fine (famous last words!)

2-2.

Barnsley 1 up after 4 minutes, we go into the half time at 1-1. We score early doors second half and concede in the 88th minute.

Book it.

Post match Brussel;

"I'm very proud of the mentality of the squad, this youthful bunch playing heavy minutes and for them to come to Yorkshire and battle for a point is another step in the right direction for the project, it's brilliant that we only conceded 2 instead of 4. The system is starting to work. Believe in the system, my system. System".

Macfarlane

Lundstram

Braybrooke

Howell

Alves

Riis

Ravioli, Aluko, Kanga, Doyle, Watson, Bristric, BDCR

LT has no place.

Give Souttar a chance in a backline without LT.

Double pivot required.

Would have been wary with 3 inexperienced players in back 4 but with lundstram shielding this is probably best team to field

They have the youngest squad in the league apparently, average age of 22. Our average age is 24.5 and to be fair, Reid and Mccarthy are massively tipping the balance on that.

This is ‘any other guy’ thinking; we had the same thing with posters and the Spanish keeper last season.

You’re basing your opinion on the fact he can’t be as bad as McCarthy because you haven’t seen this ‘other guy’ play.

Reality is, Franco was Blackpool’s second choice last season, has never played above League One level and has less than 50 league appearances across his career at the age of 29.

He’s not going to be a better option.

Still sooner see him play.

It’s all to easy to say that when you have absolutely no personally jeopardy involved here.

Regardless - you may get your wish soon - there’s a Football League Trophy game on the following Tuesday (22nd).

Side note for suggested lineups for this game - we have an EFL Trophy fixture on the Tuesday after it.

Technically, that match against Fulham’s U21’s requires ‘four qualifying outfield players’ to be named in the starting 11.

This is often referred to as requiring players that started the previous game, but there are other qualifying criteria - for example a player that didn’t play against Barnsley but played against Fulham could count as a qualifying outfield player if they start against Wigan (the fixture immediately after).

Looking at the wider criteria - See 7.4 on page 7: https://images.gc.eflservices.co.uk/EFL+Trophy+Rules+26.27+MASTER+VERSION.pdf

- we might not need to perform any serious selection gymnastics to comply; or we could simply choose to eat the £5,000 fine for not complying and just do what we want.

But you still may want to briefly consider all this in your suggested team selections.

Got to sort this ****ing defence out.

                          Ward mk. II

Josep        Kanga         O’Hora.     Aluko

        Lundolo Kante       Braybrook

                                Page
Howell                                                Alves

                                Riss

I actually think this will be the start of a very unconvincing winning streak, we will win something like 15 in a row but be shit in all of them.

What was the point of bringing him in though? I’m not disagreeing with you but McCarthy is atrocious so if this other guy is worse, it is an absolute pointless transfer.
