What about,

John you took over as Director of football in Dec 14 your role was at a premier league club, you now find yourself a league one club, do you accept that you have failed in your role because of where the club is now?

Or do you still dine out of the fact that you somehow had something to do with the PL win.

Maybe you were the man to get Claudio your idea perhaps???

Naah fluked that association as well

It may well have been a key finding that the club don't communicate - if there has been some sort of media due diligence exercise performed by potential bidders.

E.g. there may have been bidder questions around the comms or lack of thereof which have resulted in quick fire media interviews as a quick fix.

This was a bit of a hail mary attempt to try and cling onto a job because he knows the thicko above him is actually going to go at some point. Nothing more terrifying than if it came off as well. Imagine if we finally get rid of this clown and he happens to sell it to somebody who falls for this.

I would say you are on bang on with 99% of your posts. But fear not on this point as there is absolutely no way Rudkin keeps his job when Top/King Power are gone.

Unfortunately though, he is likely to be paid off handsomely on his exit. His reward for the catastrophic failures he has overseen in recent years

I think the fact we have had at least 6 managers go down on record as turning us down that summer proved that one anyway

Instinctively want to agree with what he is saying, but his previous job was the shit show at forest. So tbh sometimes in football you can just fluke success like we did

He may not see his stint with us as a failure, but he may still have very valid points regarding culture and people at the club. I have no reason to doubt his assessment, but it would be helpful if he was able to point more in the direction of the board, instead of insinuating it was only/mainly at squad level.
It irks me that he highlights Vardy's work ethic, while at the same time vetting the signing of Ayew and Edouard.

Incidentally he completely failed at Brøndby as well since leaving us.

As there's not a thread, I'd post it in this, the McCarron interview was weird, he's been in the job less than 6 months and he's already trying to gaslight the fans.

Everyone who works for the club really give the feeling of "the fans are against us, so f**k them" including the players.

McCarron said the following, like we're idiots who don't have access to basic data.

"We really wanted a manager who knew the leagues inside out, who knew English football and who could really impose a certain style of football that we fully believe in as a football club and that helps us win matches... Russell's evidenced his ability to do that across League One, the Championship, Scottish division and Premier League"

1 Scottish Premier League win

1 Premier League win

26 wins in 73 matches in League One

60 wins in 138 matches in the Championship

What he basically said is that Forest had off field leadership, however much of a basket case Marianakis is, and then implicitly says that we simply don’t have that and that the off field culture is bad.

Pearson pretty much failed everywhere after leaving us (Bristol city maybe not), sometimes a manager and team are just a perfect match.

Yes, McCarron's "Russell's evidenced his ability" comment was genuinely jaw-dropping. It takes an extraordinary amount of chutzpah to make a comment like that in the knowledge that anybody with a passing knowledge of Martin's career (or just access to the internet) could debunk it within seconds. It makes you wonder whether they went through recruitment process, signed the contract with Martin and did the media stuff and only then somebody said, "Hang on lads,—did we actually have a look at Russell's past record? No? Oh well—too late now...."

He didn't fail at Bristol City or Watford. He stabilized the former at a time when the purse strings well and truly tightened and took the latter from seven points adrift to three points above the relegation zone. That sacking was shocking imo. He wasn't a success at Derby or OHL so you have a bit of a point - bringing up Cooper's failed stint at Brøndby was irrelevant. I just feel that to a degree it vindicated the decision to sack him.

He specifically questions the decision to be sacked as well as the "work ethic" and "effective leadership" and "culture", but I feel that by bringing up Vardy he kind of ends up pointing the finger more at the squad (i.e. Vardy was fine, but a lot of the squad wasn't up to that standard).

I can't almost guarantee you that they scouted him pre-Enzo and he's remained firmly in their thoughts ever since. He was always destined to come here at some point because our board isn't proactive enough to look that deeply in the market. Our scouting group seems to consist of a google search of "who did Southampton have as a manager/player/staff member". I suspect McCarrons been told Russells coming in, he's our man irrespective of his thoughts - I'm entirely convinced it's still Rudkin pulling the strings and McCarron has become the mouthpiece.

I actually thought Owynn did well with the interview,  I feel that Leicester would have been quick to bin off local media had he probed too deep with the questioning, especially after Stringer's previous ban.

It is genuinely frightening that Rudkin presides over the club from top to bottom on both the men's and women's sides. The immediate talk of heading back to the Premier League just shows the disregard for the perilous situation that we find ourselves in. Seemingly, he has been left to run the day to day by Top and has been for some time. Anyone else with his record of failure would have had their marching orders a long time ago.

My assumption, going back to an interview Martin did with Lineker last year, is that he turned up for an interview to replace Enzo and pulled out because he found out we'd interviewed Steve Cooper too and he felt that indicated a complete missalignment on what identity the club wanted.

So not quite Pre Enzo (although i'm sure he was considered) but I think definitely interviewed for the job in 2024

An injection of personality is needed, if this is old news it needs to be new news, forget your style of play, the whole place stinks of negativity. Get someone in that can see the sunshine amongst the dark clouds and can bring us along for the ride once more rather these managers that just speak in clichés.

Cooper may be right to some extent but he also wants to play down his own failings like all managers do in the media now. Liz Trussel Martin will do the same in a few months and the gullible will lap it up.
