Can't remember the last time we've had so many big films out around the same time.

Oppenheimer, Barbie, Mission Impossible, Indiana Jones, Transformers, Elemental

Great for cinema and as much as I love the Marvel films, it's quite refreshing to see other blockbusters stepping up to the plate

It's a shame that the quality next year will be flat and few and far between with the strikes.

Nothing better than seeing something on the big screen.

I went to watch Oppenheimer last night. It was a fantastic story and extremely well made. You have to pay attention to it all the way though and it's probably why people are struggling with it. It must have some sort of record for the most dialect in a film! It's relentless.

It’s going to work in favour of quality in my opinion. It means awards, festivals and audiences will have to engage in more independent releases. A year without artless Hollywood shlock is good for cinema.

Saw Oppenheimer last night and loved it, was gripped for the whole three hours.

Did anyone find it difficult to make out some of the dialogue though? Not sure if that's due to me watching everything with subtitles or the audio!

Definitely one I'll be watching again once it's on the small screen.

Not seen it yet myself but never seen a Nolan film I could ever actually hear the dialogue of. So probs just that again.

I've just listened to Marc Maron's recent WTF episode with Cillian Murphy.

Murphy talked about Nolan being very much an 'analogue' type director and so doesn't have monitors on set and uses a lot of sound as recorded. These comments make sense.

I'm going to see it tomorrow and my hearing isn't the best, wish me luck lol

My hearing is awful and I didn’t struggle with it so I wouldn’t worry too much

Saw Oppenheimer on 35mm at Phoenix tonight. Was pretty nostalgic seeing something on film again. I think it added to the aura around a historic drama. Some brilliant acting from Cillian Murphy and others but there was just something that felt a little underwhelming about the film, particularly second half. And not as "explosive" as it could have been. But I do appreciate the craft of filmmaking that went into this as with most Nolan projects

Was something I felt with it is that it lacks a big punch.

Nolan is an extremely good set piece director but understandably this film doesn’t have it with the same impact.

Hard to describe because I’m not criticising the film, or saying it could be better. Just yeah, just something not quite there to score super big with audiences

Really enjoyed Oppenheimer, it’s not very often I’ll sit still for 3 hours but I did for that.

I agree re not having the huge, plot twists etc but it’s a very well told and extremely well acted film. I’ll definitely watch it again.

Has anyone seen barby? I’m being pestered to take the family, now if it’s the Ken and barby from Toy Story I can get on board with that or is it something aimed at 8 year old girls?

I might go dressed as tropical Ken if so.

Lol he's a big film buff, and had over 3000 DVDs in his collection back in the day. And I don't think he's ever watched a TikTok in his life!

I think like a lot of middle aged people (he's the same age as me 45) we just don't get too excited nowadays by stuff and find most of it "meh". Grumpy old men I reckon lol

I didn’t realise there were 3000 Spongebob DVDs tbh. Every day is a school day I guess.

Action man meets barby. Reminds me of toy day at primary school when an amassed army of action men with tanks and  planes would carry out a surprise attack and  wage war on the barby tea party going on on the other side of the classroom. lol

Brutal times. lol

You would think the story of the development of the  A bomb and what it means for all life on earth is a big enough payoff

Well not really, it’s a film that’s there to entertain. I could talk about that for 2 mins for sent people to sleep so you still need to entertain.

Yea it’s good but it’s not a kids film for me, for example the last line of the film would lead to some very awkward questions for parents.

Children have to be 12 upwards I’d suggest to get in engaged in.

Occasionally surreal and a bit batshit crazy too

I think you would need to be engaged with the subject and find it interesting rather than perhaps looking for big Hollywood blockbuster. I appreciate you did thought it a worthwhile 3 hours

Lidl version of Barbie?

Ha ha, I wouldn’t know, I never played with barby(ie)

Though my action men did also beat up a Ken someone gave me and my brother as a kid ago because he was wimpy. Though I felt bad for that after Toy Story :(

Might be ok then, my youngest is 12 and my eldest is 17 yet he seems most keen to see it so he must have heard something funny/good about it lol
