I like many on here was also disappointed.  SPOILER ALERT

One thing that is getting to me in this trilogy is the scale of things.  The film alludes to this being a war for the future of the universe. A universe that contains billions of star systems and trillions upon trillions of lifeforms.  Yet the 'Resistance' contains a couple of hundred humans with the odd alien for window dressing.  The mighty resistance bombing fleet had about five ships (The RAF alone by the end of WW2 used over 130,000 planes).  The First Order don't seem to be that much bigger.

The prequels for all their faults (though I appreciate them more now after TFA and TLJ) at least had an incredible sense of scale.  It really made you feel like you were watching an intergalactic conflict unfold.

Another thing is Luke Skywalker, this film took an iconic hero of cinema, someone who we last saw so triumphant and so complete at the end of ROTJ and turned him into a miserable broken lonely old coward whose only pleasure was seemingly milking the tits of a weird sea elephant thing in what seemed a bit perverted in its tone.  Then basically to cap it off he just...dies...alone...just literally vanishes.  Did he die because he was just knackered or what?  Honestly what an absolutely pathetic way to bump off Luke ****ing Skywalker.

Won't bother mentioning the horrific 'humour', nothing plot and lore tampering.

The resistance are essentially a partisan army, not officially backed by the republic, but there were definitely more than five bombers, in my mind definitely up in double figures.

Luke's fading into nothing, both Ben Kenobi and Yoda died by essentially fading into nothing (Vader never touch's Ben).

I kind of agree about the weird behaviour of Luke on the island, but I've seen it explained as the typical apprentice seeking the favour of the grand master in a Chinese martial arts film, and we know that A New Hope was heavily influenced by these films too.

Still unsure though how I feel about it. Want to see it again, having pondered on it.

I'm gonna go see it again this week, it seems necessary with a lot of people saying everything clicks on the second viewing

Yeah the Disney YouTube stooges... unless Mary Poppins, Canto Shite and Luke milking a sea cow are now cut from the film, it will still be stupid with some great bits in between.

If they are still in it, then the only difference will be you knowing the stupid stuff is coming and tuning it out.

That theory would hold more water if it hadn't needed yoda to return in glowing puppet form to set him straight. Obviously there are parallels but he wasn't a grand master tricking the apprentice into learning the ways of the force. I have no problem with Luke's role in the film, it is in keeping with the nature of the Jedi, Obi Wan and yoda became hermits, there was always conflict in Luke who started training too late in life and an arrogance by the end that would make me believe he would try and train a new bunch of Jedi and fail. Luke, Rey and Kylo Ren were pretty well portrayed and were the best bits from the film.

SPOILERS

So many things wrong with TLJ, I agree with much that has been said before. But want to make a few points not made:

1) admiral Ackbar gets totally shit on. He was general for both Death Star attacks, gets wiped out but Leah can fly, so **** you lobsterchops.

2) Finn should have died, that would have been the best thing that could have happened. And would have been a worthy plot device.

3) the whole tossing the saber over the cliff and the Rey parent reveal was a complete FU to fans. No need to do it other than a smug “ha ha you’re wong”

4) I found it to be a very mixed up film that looked like it was mish mash over other stuff. Eg. Shit key master Matrix reloaded plot thread + helms deep battle from ROTK.

Overall 5/10 : no interest in the 9th instalment

Thats one of the biggest problems with TLJ, they just threw Ackbar out the window. The guys a SW legend, he should have taken control of the resistance after Leia's Mary Poppins in space routine. Would have been a fitting way out for the squid-headed hero to hyperspace into the First Order ship in a blaze of glory instead of Holdo.

Exactly what should have happened. I read somewhere when Rian Johnson was criticised about the lack of screen time given to captain phasma and DJ, he said it’s hard when you have so many characters to incorporate. Well Holdo was a complete unnecessary, he could have done without.

The Vault, a bank heist movie with a horror spin.  It has a neat premise but it's let down by some woefully implemented story progression - to the point it feels like a lot of important scenes went missing on the cutting room floor - and one of the most obvious 'twist' endings I've seen. A 4/10 that could very easily have been a 7 or 8.

I heard that, trailer still didn't convince me.

Got round to watching The Foreigner, not for me!

A film set in a modern day scenario where you’re being asked to just suspend all belief in reality. Just asking too much for me.

Really poor!

I must have watched The Green Mile three times in the past but it was on in the lounge earlier so I watched the second half of it. I’m not afraid to admit I still teared up a bit, what an immensely moving film with some incredible performances.

Just got back from TLJ.

Huge disappointment as has been echoed on here.

I went in with three burning questions I wanted answers to.  1)  Who is Snoke?  2)  Who are Rey's parents?  3)  Who are the Knights of Ren?

After almost 5 hours of screen time all we have is some half baked answer to the 2nd of those questions and nothing more.

Disappointment turns to anger and anger turns to hate with this one.  What a complete cockup this new trilogy is serving up in terms of continuing the lore and the story.  Seriously the writers couldn't do better than this?!?!

Sure the space battles were impressive, the Ren/Rey vs the guards was decent, Crait played out well enough too but, as a whole, it was a mess.  150 minutes of glorified cat and mouse antics across space.

Leia floating through space, Luke's bizarre behaviour, heck even that casino side plot I can forgive, but to not delve deeper into the characters playing this out - summed up in the first few seconds on the island for me,  after TWO years of waiting on that cliffhanger from TFA, all we get is the middle finger, just lob the lightsaber anywhere and forget about it, who gives a monkeys anyway?

Me!!!  I'm so annoyed!

From that moment on, the movie struggled to get me back onside.

Oh, almost forgot, that Phasma fight, if you can call it that, absolutely awful.

Rant over. lol
