Yeah, great innings but we just needed to survive until lunch there- would have lost another couple of overs for the changeover.

3.7-odd an over required? Need a few early wickets.

Great knock from Hill.

We were talking about homegrown batters yesterday, when he was primarily a keeper Hill was a very average batter averaging low to mid 20s.

Age wise he must have been late 20s or even nigh on 30 when he took on the role of specialist batter and despite often being moved up and down the order and his share of injuries he's been very reliable ever since and that was his 10th first class ton today.

He deserves huge credit, and some decision to move away from the gloves by him and the coaches at the time.

2026: 284 runs @ 35 (1 ton, 1 50)

2025: 915 @ 46 (2, 6)

2024: 431 @ 20 (0, 2)

2023: 880 @ 40 (2, 5)

2022: 503 @ 39 (1, 4)

2021: 944 @ 45 (3, 5)

Didn't even play red ball in 2020 and came back post covid as a specialist bat and bar the lull in 24 been superb.

Great second innings effort, but another defeat. We really need a couple of wins from somewhere.

The batting hasn't really been the problem this season, it's the lack of a quality, penetrative new-ball bowler, that could be an overseas player.

I can never fault the effort and grit of this side but at the end of the day, we're just not good enough for Division 1. Especially the bowling. Ajaz Patel was a complete waste of an overseas signing. Should've gone for a quality pace strike bowler.

He will be badly missed but he can hold his head up high, having played a big part in seeing the Club through some dark times to emerge in a better place. Thank you Lewis!

Wonder Why he's retiring?Would have thought he could easily have at least a couple more years esp at. Div 2 level.

Going out at the top I’m guessing. He’s shown he can play in Div One therefore ticking off another achievement. Shame though as there’s evidently more seasons in him.

Yeh just to echo hat other people have said, all the best to Lewis, a great county pro, he probably could have gone on for a bit longer, but people generally know the right time to go.

I remember going to watch him at the Oval in 2015, when he defiantly scored a hundred, keeping out rockets from Chris Tremlett and it obvious then that while he didn't have the natural talent, he had tremendous determination. This was the game that KP scored 355, flaying one of the worst Leicestershire sides ever - people like Rob Taylor and Neil Pinner in that team.

Interesting we've cut the pitch like this, got approval from the ECB to do it.

Whatever to make of it we've started well and got to keep the pressure on them. We can't let them I.e. Bairstow score big now and get to 300+ otherwise unlikely to win IMO.
