The only way you’ve offended me is that seeing your username and avatar makes

me think of Ed Davey which makes me be sick in my mouth ( an odd phrase because the mouth is of course the natural exit point for vomit ).

I’m not even aware of the poem but I hope it rhymes.

My Director at work has gone on holiday for 3 weeks and didn't think to mention it to me before hand. Found out from a junior member of staff this morning.

Gotta love a complete lack of communication from leadership.

The general dumbing down of mainstream broadcasting. Particularly in the last five years.

It’s probably enhanced by me turning 30, but the state of Sky Sports and Radio 1, for example, is quite sad.

I saw this news today:

https://news.sky.com/story/bbc-to-axe-long-running-interview-show-hardtalk-amid-plans-to-cut-130-news-roles-13234093

I used to watch this quite a lot when I lived abroad. Lots of my students used to watch it too to improve their English. I know it's just one programme but it reflects what you posted, that anything insightful or interesting is cut and the absolute dumbest shit gets funded.

It was a sense of pride that we produced quality stuff that people preferred to a) American stuff and b) their own media. But I don't know how many people still associate British media with that same kind of quality.

The general public.

Don't ask me to investigate an issue to then tell me I'm making things up when I give you my findings and a cause

Welcome to the life of the vast majority of scientists when it comes to public engagement. Infuriating, isn't it?

I get it a fare amount in my role, and have previously, I'm unsure why this one has annoyed me more than usual

Sometimes, it's just one particular incidence of negative behaviour that pushes you over the edge.

"I cant believe it"/"You won't believe it"/"You couldn't make it up"

What they mean is "This is something I didn't like"

Everyone believes it, including the speaker, it's always believable whatever it is. And, yes, you could have made it up unless you are incredibly dim.

"I couldn't believe it, the milkman had been tupping my wife every morning - filling her with his gold top. You couldn't make it up."

Oh fvck off.

The multipack dairy milk chocolate bar has gone down to 4 pieces now. Less than 2 years ago it was 6, then went down to 5 and now it’s at 4. Absolute joke

Regarding overall chocolate bar portion sizes..I find myself wondering how much further they can possibly cut them.  A standard Mars bar is now basically the size of what used to be found in party packs back in the day.

Will they eventually end up being the size of what you find in a box of Celebrations?

All whilst prices remain the same or even increase.

It's crazy.

Waiting for DBS clearance to volunteer.

Have been waiting 5 weeks for one to get cleared; just want something to do whilst unemployed, as unemployment feels lonely and questions yourself..

When you order a McDonalds on one of the screens and look down to get your receipt but there is no receipt so you look back up at the screen but your order number has disappeared.

It is a slow process unless you're looking for clearance for a "proper job".

What are you volunteering for?

It's always a good thing and gives a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Good luck.
