Yakubu

I'd like to think we could potentially sign both. Nugent on a free is a good bit of business and a perfect foil for someone like Yakubu. Nugent is a much younger (and better) version of steve howard. And howard has been a decent servent to the club.

Everyone is talking about Heskey as being a great player, who can bring others into the game, who can create opportunities for the second striker, well, for me, that is exactly what nugent would do, but we could have the potential of more longevity of service.

Plus, if we aren't laying out on a transfer fee, it signals a great signing.

Come on, lets be honest, if it was one of our promotion rivals signing nugent on a free we would be getting pissed off that we didn't even stick a bid in!!

Sven is also now looking at Dave Nugent as Yakubu has high wage demands that Leicester may not decide to meet however most likely Leicester will find a compromise for both parties.

Quote from Leicester Transfer Rumours. Everyone relax, he'll be here next season, he likes it here

I am relaxed I don't want him here.

I am sorry but if he is digging in for more money than I don;t want him here. He must be a millionaire anyway, surely job satisfaction (i.e. actually playing week in and out) is the most important factor. Why are footballers such greedy bastards?

He could easily go abroad and play every game for the wages he wants I'm sure.

True, but when he comes out and says he wants to stay here and that he is enjoying it here then surely you drop your demands to realistic levels.

Its not a fact of greed, he will be used to the lifestyle his income provides, like anyone else on here who is on 35k a year? Would you cut a 1/3 of your salary for job satisfaction?

He probably has commitments to meet that warrant his salary he currently has. Not agreeing with overpaid footballers but you really can't blame him.

We need yak and nugent then time to sort the defence out and a big 6ft 4 midfielder to boss it

Well not many players negotiate their own deals for a start and agents don't care where the player goes as long as they are getting the best wages. After all 10% of £40,000 pw is significantly better than 10% of £20,000 pw. I think there are very few players who don't want to play first team football but the nature of the industry now is that in some cases you can earn more money by not playing because of how poorly the money is distributed to clubs. When every single game could be your last, retirement comes at 35 and with so much money made available to wages and top clubs you would be mad not to try and secure your future if it where offered to you.

I'm sorry but they really aren't comparable. As a percentage it is the same but that's where the similarity ends.

The difference between a drop from 35 to 25k a week and 35 to 25k a year are completely different. One is the difference between two lavish lifestyles where money is not really an issue and that us mortals can only dream of, and the other is fundamental changes to the way someone lives.

I want the Yak here but if he is being really stubborn about this then we should tell him to do one.

No one player is more important than our club.

Yakubu won't get many other chances to sign a high-salary contract with an English club. Remember, footballers have very short careers unlike, say, CEOs that can earn ridiculous income well into their elder days. While Yakubu may seem like a **** for having such high wage demands, especially relative to what most of us earn, I really can't blame him when I consider the above.

"unfortunatly if you want 20+ goals at this level he is."

I'd be surprised if Danny Graham is on wages of £50k even now he's at Swansea.

The probem with paying excessive wages is that it sets expectations for others - a benchmark to get close to including existing players. The wage structure has to be affordable and if we start signing plalyers on 2-3 year contracts st £30-40k we run the risk of bankrupting the club again.

I don't know what QPR/Norwich players received last season but I doubt if any got half what some want us to pay Yak (or Nugent). The point being is that it's possible to get promoted without paying premiership wages.

I've worked on this problem for a while and sorry I still can't see it :ermm: Please could you enlighten me?

FFS I've got a maths exam on Monday as well and I can't do basic maths :(

The owners are demanding prem football so thats the price you must be willing to pay, excessive or not.

Are people generally more happy for him to come now than last season? I thought 50% of people didn't want him before. :dunno:

Because he will score 25+ goals, that fills me with delight

If he does sign, watch him get injured first game of the season and be out for 6 months.

If you're earning £25k a week, you're still going to be earning around £1.5m a year, compare that to your average worker who would be losing £10k a year and then only earn £25k, it's a huge difference.

In an ideal world we would want a 25 goal a season player on about 10k a week.

Unfortunately, due to the reality we live in, this doesn't happen.

I'm not convinced by the signing of Yakubu but if Sven can find a way of playing him well with someone else, or possibly an extra two up front, then fair enough. I just didn't see enough of it last season to fill me with an overwhelming sense of confidence that he will.

Not hard to comprehend is it? Nothing to do with maths and percentages. If someone earning an average wage takes a cut of a third, then it could be detrimental to their basic standard of living. In some cases they may struggle to keep a roof over their families heads. If someone on Yakubu's wage, which at about 35k a week means he gets £1.8m a year, a cut of a third would mean he would still earn £1.2m. It's not going to cripple him. He'll still live a life of luxury, not have to really worry about anything financially. It's money we can't get our head round, he might have a life style he's used to, but he's not gonna spend £1.8m a year. He'll still have huge house and a nice car, he'll be fine, just might have to not buy a another Porsche this year.
