clare Posted 24 July 2011 Posted 24 July 2011 I spent 4 days in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland during May and absolutely loved it. Decided on a whim to just go off on my tod for a few days of walking in the mountains and it's one of the best things I've ever done! It's ridiculously expensive, but worth it in my view. I took the Jungfraubahn to Jungfraujoch and the views were immense. On the train ride up through the valley, the mountain views are spectacular and once you pass Kleine Scheidegg, the tunnel actually goes through the mountain and stops twice, the first time looking down the sheer North face of the Eiger. Some of my pics are here Swiss pics I'm off to New York in October as well and I'm like an excited child in a sweet shop! Never been before - always wanted to go and now I am!

Enjoyed reading your travelog. Enjoy New York and if you have time, rent a car and get out of the city, the trees will be turning colour in New England about then.

maynefox Posted 24 July 2011 Posted 24 July 2011 I just returned back from a greek island called Thassos in the north east of the county. Stayed a week, in the southern town of Potos on the island, (Alexandra beach spa resort hotel) very nice! would recomend it! the views are great and the beaches are excellent across the island. nice hotel, clear waters. I miss it now oh and probably the best sunset ive ever seen is on the island. I would look up Thassos!

Good read spectacular scenery......next time i go i might wear shoes why toes were a bit cold by the end of the day. Especially when i had to do push ups in the snow! We stayed in Cabins there and none of the rooms had locks on them as we were told there is no need as it is the safest place in the world. Did your hotel room have a lock? Agree the cabe car ride is awesome and so relaxing especially with all the cattle up the mountain with the cow bells it was just such a pleaseant experience. Anyone been around exploring the Norwegian Fjords and the Northern Lights? Going on a 10 cruise around them towards the end of August. Went to Gerraginger Fjords last year was truly mystical and beautiful. Never been so lost for words in my life absolutly stunning place.

Originally we were just planning on going to somewhere in europe for a couple of weeks at the.start of september, we have.now decided that we are going to wait abit, save.some more cash and go long haul in january. Have heard mixed reviews about cuba but the beaches look amazing! If anyone can share some of their experiences of Cuba, or the surrounding islands then it would be much apprecieted. We can probably go up to around £900 each. Cheers fellas

MC Prussian Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Wrap up well!!! It gets cold. I'm in Vegas atm, returning Thursday I'm off to Geneva for my birthday in September if anyone has any tips? Please. First time. Off to Berlin in Novemeber, again, first time. Returning to Havana next March. Lovely!! How do you manage to get around this much? Are you a traveling salesman or a professional poker player? As for Geneva, watch out - it's one of the more expensive places in Switzerland (as if Switzerland wasn't already expensive enough). Depends on how far out you want to travel - I'd recommend any place alongside Lake Geneva. Try Lausanne, which is about a forty-minute trip by train away or Evian on the French side (South Coast); use the ferry to get there, it's classy. Lyon and Annecy are also pretty close, well worth a trip across the border - and it's cheaper there, too.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 This recession is a real bitch, huh?! Well to rein it back in - going to Crask of Aigas in the middle of nowhere in Scotland. It's near Inverness. Nice, remote and cheap! Getting there will be more expensive than the holiday.
MC Prussian Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Camping in Scotland in the summer is something I'm planning on doing myself sometimes soon. I've driven across the countryside in the Stirling/Crieff area and it's absolutely stunning, the scenery around Loch Earn is priceless.

FoxesAreBlue Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 I'll be following you there in October ! It's hot hot hot in August, very dry as well !! I went to Vegas in 08 and although it's not everybodys cup of tea I loved it, it was over 100F in September so very very hot I can recommend going to the Hard Rock Hotel pool party, $20 to get in to what is basically an outdoor club beach are with free vodka drinks all night, bands on stage, swim up bars, amazing women etc I woke up the next day in the bathtub wearing just my swimming shorts and a pair of shades that went mine so don't take any valuables
