sdb Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Kingy isn't quite captain material, as much as I love him. Mills is too new atm but will eventually fulfil the role. Oakley won't play. I guess that makes Wellens the right man, although his performances will have to be decent with the competition for places.
ScouseFox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Meh, don't really mind who gets it. Not a massive Wellens fan but whatever.
kingfox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Find nothing wrong with this at all. Reading didn't like Mills as their captain, and just throwing the armband to him as soon as he joined is a stupid decision King has proved he isn't right not vocal enough Wellens is perfect even though he was poor against Madrid, he is perfect for captain experienced and vocal, out of all the players on the next captain poll I voted Wellens. Right decision but of course some will disagree
m00nie Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 with the midfielders we have now wellens unfortunately wouldnt be my main starters so i would prefer to see it go to someone else
The Doctor Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 s'all well and good for a player to be vocal on the pitch but he needs to have some sort of ability to warrant a starting place most weeks & so the captaincy. I'd rather Schmiechel got it despite being a new signing, he's vocal, commanding & a good player.
Happy Fox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Interesting selection I must say, wasn't expecting it but I hope that Wellens proves that he has got it in him to drive the team to promotion we shall see
drc Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 on twitter earlier today: jasonbourne1986 Jason Bourne It's still up for grabs - that's the message from the #LCFC manager Sven-Goran Eriksson on the club captaincy. Who should be captain?
davieG Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 He didn't look very good Captain material against Madrid.
Itsthejoeker Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Wellens wouldn't be in my first choice eleven.
Libertine Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Meh. Not convinced really. As long as he's rotated just like the others then fine, but would have preferred someone like Mills who will probably play every game.
Nick Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Gee, this must be getting under the skin of all those Wellens haters who were stating that Sven had finally woken up to how rubbish he is and got replacements in. That must really 'sting'. It's like a public acknowledgement that he is really rated by the manager and will be a near permanent feature in starting XI. Real smack in the face that. I think it's also because Blackpool came in for him and he was told he would be core to Sven's plans and possibly offered the armband at that juncture. I also still can't help but wonder if there is a King deal been done with a prem club - is there a massive pin up of Kingy on the side of the stadium ?
Walshy5 Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Maybe im reading to much into all this but i have a sneaky suspection king might be off! 1. Not in the starting line up on saturday 2. New midfielders coming in 3. Striping him of the captaincy Like i say though hopefully im just reading to much into it.
Corky Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 I can't see King going yet, people will say he doesn't do much but you need to replace an average of 13 goals per season from a midfielder. That will be very tough to do. Wellens doesn't strike me as great captaincy material. Indeed if Johnson is fit for the majority of the season I can see him taking Wellens' place.

Then putting a massive poster of him on the side of the ground was a big mistake.
Kilworthfox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Should have been made captain 2 season ago, he is our leader on the pitch & gets stuck in when needed. Oakley was a joke as captain as a fan I want to respect our captain & that he shows the team the commitment thats needed to play in the first team, Ritchie does that for me better than any, not including the new signings as I have not seen enough of them in our shirt
LcFc_Smiv Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Usually only read through these boards, kind of surprised by how much dislike there is towards Wellens. I know he's not exactly consistent but I thought he was by far one of the best players last season and surely if he kept that form up he would merit a starting line up place for the majority of this season, along with Danns who looked great against Madrid and Abe who puts 100% in every game, IMO, Seems to have the respect from the team, and is in the perfect position to see the whole game, especially with him being box to box. As for King I wouldn't be surprised if he was on his way out, things seem to be pointing that way, my dad was asking if WBA have any interest in him as Roy Hodgson was at the game, and he couldn't think of any other reason why he'd be there, most likely were putting 2 and 2 together and getting 10.
RowlattsFox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Proves how fickle this place can be, at times last season people were saying that should be captain. Is Wellens the new player-to-hate? It doesn't really bother me, but I suppose it does almost guarantee he will start at Coventry.
