Portsmouth away pre-match confabulation

nice easy one for me coming from Bournemouth on the train. a scrappy 2-1 for me coming from behind, beckford and kingy

Nuge is going to be well up for this. Normally do well there so I'll got 2 - 0. Nuge and Beckford.

Got a feeling with the wind down south Schmeichel's kicking is going to be even more dangerous.

Would be happy with a draw tbh but would love a win 1-1 draw for me. Same side ( Never change a winning side ) and king the scorer !

I always think a couple of changes are needed even if it was a great performance just for something fresher, otherwise it stagnates. SAF rarely names an unchanged side, always a couple of changes as in my opinion unchanged sides don't work. Harder for teams to do their homework if you change it aswell

Leicester City where do they rate.... Edited On: 26/09/2010 11:17

1st scummers [obviously]

2nd Leicester [see below]

3rd Spurs [never really liked them, but recent years have stoked it]

4th Swindon [eased in recent years but a real bogey side in the late 80's early 90's]

5th [changes through the years depending on how we're doing /who we're playing but usually involves Millwall/ Cardiff/ Wolves/ Leeds etc]

The Leicester thing goes back to the late 80's early 90's (same with Swindon who were a real bogey side to us around then) when we played them often and there was needle on and off the pitch.

The 92/93 season stoked it up with them scoring a last minute equaliser at Fratton in the league game towards the end of the season (a season we won 19 of our 23 home games). A few weeks later we had to suffer the playoff's knowing we were playing a team that finished 12 points behind us, battered them in the away leg (at The City Ground) without scoring and then 'jooliaaan' scored near the end.

They were becoming intollerable cvnts.

At Fratton we then had the 100 yards offside goal to burst our bubble and that saw them go to Wembley and they were rubbing our noses in it. The pitch invasion at the end was turning nasty to the point they shat it and even tried singing the Chimes to appease us FFS! It kicked off outside the ground and there was further trouble (I think a car was overturned/ set on fire on Fratton Bridge).

They didn't go up, so we had them the next season but as we began to slide they stayed up there as play-off contenders. We played them towards the end of the season at Filbert Street and got small revenge by winning up there 3-0 (first win there for 64 years) being 3-0 up at half time with Speedie missing a pen, the floodlights failed and at one point it looked like the game would be called off FFS! HT lasted over 40 mins until they got the lights going, but that long half time meant more banter and hatred. Again after the game there were pockets of trouble. Leicester had become a needle match.

Move on to 2002/03 when it was us two at the top all season battling it out. No mater what we did we couldn't seem to shake them off and internet banter moved the story on. There was the infamous waterlogged Fratton game which they could brag about and when we went up there, them going 1-0 put them top of the table for the first time all season (and the first time we'd not been top since about the third week). Loads more needle before Taylor equalised and we could have the last laugh - but we all stayed behind after the game for about half an hour to rub it in.

In the Prem the coonts did the double over us and so the needle was still ticking away.

Mandaric going there simply kept the rivalry going to this day, but I think it's usually a good indicator of a how serious a Pompey fan you were in the 90's by how much you hate Leicester. They also hate us which rubber stamps the fixture as proper rivalry for me and the one rivallry which is mostly based on footballing reasons kicking it off.

Other than scummers, Mandaric could not have shat on the Pompey fans (he 'claims' to love) more than going to those cvnts.

I was talking to my old man about Pompey and he said that he remembers quite a few coming togethers of the two off the pitch.

There's an interesting topic on these forums which I can't find now of old away day stories following leicester.

Loads of replies on it about the play off semi at fratton park and the trouble there was.

Danns for Dyer. Will add steel to the defensive side of our game, and being away from home this would be wise. Dyer didn't do much on sunday despite the 80 year old fan nxt to me putting him in the wank bank every 5 mins. He even shouted "get dyer on" when he was on the pitch.

I've never really thought of Portsmouth as rivals to be honest.

I was there for that late Lee Philpott equaliser though!!

We'll get our first back to back win this season. Dyer is actually far more productive away from home, he always has been. Teams don't like to play against him on the counter attack, which is what away teams tend to base their game plan on. I'd keep him in and go for it. If he's ineffective again then throw Schlupp on and go 3 up top.

I fancy Nugent to upset them on Saturday with a goal or two.

True. He's scored about 20 for us since he joined and I reckon around 75% of them have been away.

So basically, they hate us because we're a little bit better than they are?? But they think they're better than us but have never really been able to beat us? Sounds a bit harsh to have this hatred based on that reason. More of an annoyance than anything.

I can personally say that I have no real feelings for Portsmouth, certainly do not hate them. But I've never seen them as a friendly bunch.

I remember the 1-1 game. We went 1-0 up and were giving it "large" about being top of the league. I don't recall any "needle" they were obviously just getting a bit mardy. This is the first time I've actually realised just how much they don't like us though, I've never really thought about it in that way before, or even been bothered to look into it.

Anyway, I think it's fair to say that most, if not all, of us would agree we owe them for last season so hoping for a win, a big win, or at least a comfortable win with us dominating the game

but this is Leicester and we're becoming a bit desperate for those back to back wins again................................
