Narborough_fox Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leicester-want-to-trade-matt-mills-848001 Swap deal: Leicester want to trade Mills for Celtic defender English centre half Kelvin Wilson left Nottingham Forest for the SPL four years ago. Leicester are closing in on a swap deal for Celtic’s English centre half Kelvin Wilson – with Matt Mills going the other way. The former Nottingham Forest defender went to the SPL on a free a year ago. Mills cost the Foxes nearly £5million when he joined them from Reading last summer.
Tielemans63 Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 I'd imagine Nige would prob prefer cash (say £2.5m) for Mills to fund a move for Jimmy Chester. Maybe that's what's holding it up? Not sure Wilson is really what we want.
MPH Posted 26 May 2012 Posted 26 May 2012 That is funny because it wasn't meant to be.  ok now THAT was funny!
lcfc1990 Posted 26 May 2012 Posted 26 May 2012 I don't rate Fryatt Were not in the bowels of the club so we don't know the full story Chill how can u not rate fryatt?

Not sure Wilson is really what we want. We've seen reports of us wanting to sign Wilson for over 10 days now, I think it's fair to say Nigel wants to sign him. I doubt Hull are going to give up Chester cheap, seeing as he's young, Hobbs is injured for a large part of next season and it's Nigel Pearson trying to sign him. Generally Nigel doesn't like to overpay for players, so I can't see us bringing in Chester.
Swarles Barkley Posted 26 May 2012 Posted 26 May 2012 It's the mirror. Read the first line it says he left florist 4 yrs ago then says one year ago. Lazy journalism
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Stringer saying on twitter today that scottish newspapers say Mills going to celtic on a season long loan.
Simo86 Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Stringer saying on twitter today that scottish newspapers say Mills going to celtic on a season long loan. As long as they're paying all his wages it wouldn't be a bad deal
Mark_w Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 A loan deal means that if our owners are stupid enough to sack Pearson we might have to take him back.
Ric Flair Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Just shows that Celtic cannot afford to pay £30,000 a week and £2.5 million. Not sure how I feel about this. I rate Mills so him still being on our books is a plus point should Nigel get the boot.
Happy Fox Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/celtic/2012/05/29/celtic-boss-neil-lennon-plans-loan-move-for-leicester-defender-matt-mills-86908-23877512/ CELTIC will try to snap up Matt Mills on a 12-month loan deal after Leicester knocked back a swap deal for Hoops defender Kelvin Wilson. Parkhead manager Neil Lennon is a big admirer of centre-half Mills, left, who was been frozen out of Nigel Pearson’s first team at the King Power Stadium. Former Foxes gaffer Sven Goran Eriksson splashed out £5million for the player last summer and handed him a bumper four-year contract. But Mills is now surplus to requirements and despite being the club captain he has been banished to train with the Championship side’s youth team. After a series of bust-ups with boss Pearson, Mills hasn’t played for Leicester since February and Celtic were originally keen to land the 25-year-old on a permanent deal. However, Record Sport understands discussions between Parkhead chief executive Peter Lawwell and Leicester director of football operations Andrew Neville broke down after failing to agree a fee for the player. City are asking £3m for the former Reading star but Celtic were unwilling to pay that much and wanted to off-load Wilson as part of any potential transfer. But after Pearson rejected the chance to sign Wilson the Hoops are now hopeful of landing Mills on a season-long loan for the start of next term. They could be willing to pay most, if not all, of his £25,000-a-week wages because they would avoid paying any fee for the Englishman. With Daniel Majstorovic already off the Celtic payroll – and fellow defenders Glenn Loovens and Darren O’Dea also set to leave – Lennon has made a centre-half his priority.
accessory Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Rangers are on the edge of meltdown, which will have consequences for the rest of the SPL, (including Celtic), who will end up getting a lot less TV money. A loan deal makes more sense for them. Maybe if he helps them to the last 16 of the Champions League (), they can then consider a permanent deal.
fosseman Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 What a massive waste of money. We've got ourselves into a real bind with this one. Let's hope that we can find a buyer in the near future.
Happy Fox Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Andrew Neville has cocked it up yet again!! Our valuation is too high £3m £2-2.5m should be fine.
jock2612 Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Agree 3m is far too much for a player who had one good season at this level. I assume NP has someone else in mind after rejecting Wilson I hope he is NOT wasting time trying to get Chester but Hull will NEVER sell to us.

DanTheFox07 Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Mills to celtic on a season loan, what an abslout waste of time that would be, need to get him off the wage bill and get a fee so we can fund a move for the likes of chester!
escos Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Personally I think this is an ideal situation. As it stands we would be lucky to get £2m for him, but if he does well a Celtic who are a big club known worldwide his worth could rise dramatically. So basically we can stick him in the shop window without having to fork out his £25k per week wages!!

Valid point but we need to recoup some money to fund a replacement CB unless we go for a free agent.
Raw Dykes Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Edit: I wrote this before escos' post appeared, but now it looks like I'm copying it. I couldn't agree more, anyway. I think a season-long loan at Celtic could be great for us. We'd still be getting the bulk of his wages off our wage bill, and if he does well there, then his value will rise. It shouldn't be difficult for him to do well - the SPL should make him look like a really good defender, especially with Rangers in the state they're in. Hopefully, by the end of the season, there'll be plenty of clubs queueing up to buy him for a good price.
RonnieTodger Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 My friend who supports Celtic but has a season-ticket at Leicester said that City would be much better off keeping Mills than Wilson. Judging by a lot of Celtic fans, Wilson has been something of a flop up there.
MooseBreath Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 Seems ok, but it's hard to ignore the potential level of farce in having an on form £5m defender out on loan while we piss about with lower league players
nickelbyfox Posted 29 May 2012 Posted 29 May 2012 As long as they're paying all his wages it wouldn't be a bad deal I agree, dont think a loan deal is a bad deal at all, sure they will have to pay something as well up front. Good season over there and maybe we will recoup some of our transfer fee, or keep him!
