We have already played two teams who we're in their do or die games and beat them albiet a weaker oppostion, so we shouldn't have to many problems. I think it will more than likely go into extra time or a 1-0 England win and there not that great at attacking either.

Tough game, we haven't played well yet but we haven't lost....we do have a tendancy to get knocked out as soon as we play a good team though.

It will require us to raise our game which is something the top teams seem to be able to do.

By getting to the 1/4 we havce reached our level, anything else will be a great achievement.

Yessssss

One of their main men

Still Pirlo, De Rossi and Di Natale and that young winger to really look out for

Think our defense have Mario sussed

Will be a tough and hopefully entertaining game :chant:

Italy don't play with wingers. Do you mean Giovinco?

More pace than anything, and Im sure he plays on the wing for Juve & on FeeFa12

Weirdly, I have a good feeling about this one and can see England snatching a win.

3-0 reverse then.

Roy Hodgson's training plan for this week:

Today: Penalties

Thursday: Penalties

Friday: Penalties

Saturday: Penalties

Warnock said today something that I was thinking yesterday (in fairness, he too might have thought it yesterday, but only had the opportunity to say it today :)) and that is England are the new Italy. Only Italy do what we've been doing better, soaking up the pressure, scoring one and defending like hell!

It's gonna be a boring QF.

Is anyone taking into consideration that England have played all their games in The Ukraine, whilst Italy's have all been in Poland ?

The Quarter Final is being played where we beat Sweden, could be good for us :fc: :fc:

I am not optimistic, on the back of 3 good results but poor to average performances, I have seen nothing to suggest we will win this game, admittedly Italy have been poor too, but we have yet to find the right balance between attack and defence, I would like to see someone else at Right Back for this game (Micah Richards preferably) but I can't see Roy opting for Jones or Kelly.

Milner has failed to impress, but I would expect him to start as extra defensive cover for Johnson at right back, Young likewise has been poor, but when the other option on the left is Downing or Oxlade Chamberlain I can see it being unchanged except maybe Carroll for Welbeck.

My line-up against Italy:

Hart

Jones Terry Lescott Cole

Walcott Gerrard Parker Young

Rooney

Carroll

I'd have Walcott for Milner. Italy didn't really have any wingers so Johnson and a bit of cover from Walcott will suffice I reckon. Carroll in for Welbeck because in both games vs France and Ukraine our main problem has been a massive inability to make to ball stick up top, and Carroll will make that happen. Also with Chiellini out injured Carroll can batter whoever plays centre half. Easy.

I've said on several occasions that Italy haven't been as defensive as they were back in the mid-nineties for ages. And that England are without a doubt the most defensive 'top' side and have been for quite some time. I can't say I blame England. It brings results and it's not like they have a wealth of creative talent to choose from...

Talk about an omen...

Roy Hodgson took Fulham to the Europa Cup Final where they knocked out Ukrainians in Donetsk, beat Italians in the next round, defeated Germans in the Semis before losing to a Spanish side in the Final

I really can't see what everyone is worried about.

The biggest problem will possiblybe trying to stay awake as two really negative teams thrash it out. This Italian side are really not that good. If you stop Pirlo then you stop Italy. They don't have the class or finesse of their great sides of years ago. England have five players who would probably get into any team in the tournament and some good hungry youngsters. On top of that if we need him I don't think the Italian defence could cope with the physical prescence of Carroll.

We also have the advantage of being the underdog. There are no expectations of us doing much so the players can play without fear.

I'm going for a red card for Ballotelli and a 2-0 England win.

lol never noticed

I like how nobody has even noticed that Lampard has been missing at all which tells everything you need to know about the Parker-Gerrard midfield partnership in my opinion.

Not expecting much tonight, i've been disappointed at how some of the media have allowed themselves to get completely carried away with our chances, thus increasing the pressure on the team massively before facing a team that we have our worst record against. I would love to be proved wrong tonight and to see us beat one of the worlds footballing giants, however, though we have been solid, we can't say we have looked like a genuine contender either.

Saying that neither has Italy, but i feel their greater major tournament knockout experience will shine through in the end, and Di Natale and Balotelli are always worth a goal. Im going to go with a 1-1 draw with us losing on penalties. It either be that or a comfortable 2-0 win for the Italians, cue to press going apeshit whist totally forgetting that not many gave us a chance of getting out of our group, including myself.

Nonetheless come on England give it everything!! :englandsmile4wf:

Same team that started against Ukraine.

You knew it would happen.

I'm quite happy with how we've done so far, we've played with commitment and the players appear to be enjoying their football. No scandal, no reports of internal falling out.

If we lose tonight we lose, we're playing a team better than us. Just give it a go- as Gerrard said, leave everything out on the pitch and nothing behind.
