Danizen Posted 27 April 2013 Share Posted 27 April 2013 It's in quotation marks, they wouldn't do that if they had made it up. So someone said it and it is also in 'officialish' language. It's not from the owners but could be a deliberate leak to ramp up the pressure on Pearson. It could also be the kind of thing Susan Whelan would say if a Mirror journalist rang up and said 'what do the owners think of Martin O'Neill'. That's not how tabloids work, unfortunately. Read any bullshit gossip story or any light-hearted fluff story and there will always be a quote from 'a source' or 'an onlooker'. It's usually the journalist's opinion and maybe a crappy pun to make the idiot reader smile.

Bayfox Posted 28 April 2013 Share Posted 28 April 2013 'sacked from sunderland a month ago' dont think so You know what i mean the mirror have just been rehasing the same article since the owners arrived. It's not from the owners but could be a deliberate leak to ramp up the pressure on Pearson. Happy Fox Posted 28 April 2013 Author Share Posted 28 April 2013 Also mentioned in the Sun http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4906173/Martin-ONeill-in-line-for-sensational-return-as-Leicester-manager.html MARTIN O’NEILL is heading for a sensational return to Leicester. O’Neill, axed by Sunderland last month, will replace Nigel Pearson after City’s promotion failure. He had five years at the Foxes before moving to Celtic in 2000. cc_star Posted 28 April 2013 Share Posted 28 April 2013 Haha people clinging to what the Mirror says because they're saying what you think you want to hear. There's never been more bullshit written in that rag than currently & that takes the biscuit. Same story as when MoN was joining us 18m ago & then he joined Sunderland. And looking at his demeanour on the Sunderland touchline, he's lost the thing that made him good - fire & passion. His negative tactics there looked lost in the modern game. You'll forever be a legend MoN, but never go back
Happy Fox Posted 28 April 2013 Author Share Posted 28 April 2013 Does the saying never go back mean we shouldn't bother? only have to look at bringing back NP to know it is a disaster and other second returns however there are also some examples of it working i.e Tony Pulis at Stoke etc. However if you judge there managerial credentials MON has managed in both the prem and championship (albeit a long time ago) successfully so seems like the perfect fit for the owners ambitions whether he would be a success again here, who knows but I would give him the chance because he knows the game inside out and is a motivator whether John Robertson had an input on that remains to be seen. David Hankey Posted 28 April 2013 Share Posted 28 April 2013 Forget MON, he doesn't do going back and to be honest even if he did could he really repeat the events of yesteryear. We need to look forward not backwards.
tyneside fox Posted 28 April 2013 Share Posted 28 April 2013 As much a i loved MON when he was here before , IMO he had a lot of money to spend at Villa and Sunderland and didnt acheive what was expected. I think we should stick with NP as given more time i believe he will get us there next season ,after all Cardiff stuck by Malky Mackay and it worked for them. LJS Posted 28 April 2013 Share Posted 28 April 2013 The same Mirror which kept calling Chelsea's europa league opponents basle instead of basel? Welcome home Martin..... It's spelt both ways. Anyway, whilst the Sun and the Mirror aren't what you'd call quality newspapers by a long shot they are among the papers with the largest readership. They're exactly the sort of papers source would leak information to as it would reach a wide audience. I'm not saying this is going to happen but it seems obvious that somebody linked to the club is talking. It might be a ploy to put pressure on Pearson, it might be a ploy to force O'Neill into ruling himself out or giving an inclination that he is interested. Or it might just be that something is afoot. We'll see. What I suspect has happened is that the club has approached O'Neill informally (I'd be amazed if they hadn't regardless of these 'articles') and journalists have heard about it. They've approached the club to see if there's anything in it and the club has responded in officialese, letting these newspapers know that the option is one they're considering without being explicit about it.
