Northampton Town have signed Leicester City striker Jacob Blyth on a month's loan.

Blyth, who turns 21 next week, began his career with prolific spells for a number of non-league clubs.

In May 2012 he was signed by Leicester City from Leamington for an undisclosed fee. After scoring 6 goals in 11 appearances for the club's Under 21 Development Squad, he had loan spells at Burton Albion and Notts County in 2012/13.

Last season he was the top scorer for Leicester City's Development Squad and signed a new contract with the Foxes in May 2013.

"We watch a lot of football at all levels and Jacob is a player I have tracked for a few years," said Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd.

"I think he will come in and do us a good turn. He is a good finisher, as his record at non-league level and in Leicester's Development Squad has proved. He is good in the air, he can hold the ball up and he is keen to do well.

"All round he is a good footballer and I am pleased we have been able to bring him in."

He has been allocated squad number 25 and is added to the squad for the visit of Newport County on Saturday.

They put it on twitter before northampton did .....

I think this is the way the club are heading, I'm guessing. They seem to be quicker updating the twitter profile (although I haven't got twitter), and I know they update their facebook page a lot.

Good luck to Blyth anyway. Should give him some experience, especially at a club like Northampton who I'm guessing will be one of the better teams in that league.

He's 21 now...I think there he has to prove something this season to get another contract to play in the first team.

Good luck to him but scoring a few for the youth team is hardly pulling up trees. Will need to prove he can score a hatful at Northampton

Scored an absolute bagful for the devolpoment team, I hope he can kick on and notch a few for Northampton and come back here brimming with confidence.

Don't see much point in a month-long loan myself.

Me either. Unless it's to cover for injuries, or there's a month left of the season  :P

If he was good enough surely he'd have a few more first te games for us? It'll be interesting to see how he gets on there.

only one month? not long enough.

I guess there's always an option to extend the loan. I wish Blyth well at Northampton and that he can show what he's made of.
