Childhood Crushes

Recommended Posts

Start with this one:

I was 10 or 11 when Eternal flame came out and remember slow dancing with a girl for the first time at Gangster's Disco in Rothwell.

It might not be the best song ever but Susannah Hoff you awakened things in me that I didn't know what to do with.

By the time I was 15/16 my taste in music had moved on a bit as had my thoughts on girls and Liz Phair blew my mind. 15 or 16 and listening to this was, well.... (listening to it now is, well..)

And then when I was 17/18 there was Sarah Cracknell:

Yep Susannah Hoff was probably my first crush, I was a late bloomer.

To be fair, at 11 years old I am not sure I knew what it was about - the 'crush' came later (and is still going ;)

Louise (redknapp) lol

And Britney Spears in the 'I'm a slave for you' video!

Louise is alright, when I did my sky dive she was interviewing and filming someone doing a jump as a way of proposing to his girl friend! Apparently he had a fear of heights and this was his way of showing his love for her lol

Never did find out what she said.

Debbie Harry

Not a crush for me, but certainly a revelation and an exceptionally sexy, sassy woman - and the charismatic focus of an outstanding pop band. Was also adored by males and females alike, which tends to be a good sign.

I still recall the buzz going around at school (I'd have been about 16) when Blondie first appeared on Top of the Pops. It was a real phenomenon - everyone seemed to be gobsmacked.

Unless I'm misremembering, it was this performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahGxiSV_LH0

Not Vera Lynn then Zing!

I liked the blonde one from ABBA.

Vera Lynn was more like a favorite aunt than a childhood crush

You had a crush on the blond one from ABBA ? I think his name was Bjorn

seriously though , my crush on Agnetha has lasted pretty much all my life .

i love the innocent sweetness of her in this vid

Not a singer but associated to the music scene as a presenter - Sarah Greene used to help us ahem "rise" on a Saturday Morning on Going Live. For some reason her wardrobe was bordering on prostitute / escort with lacy gloves and tops and denim or leather mini skirts.

We had to tolerate that annoying squeeky muppet (Philip Schofield) and someone called Gordon the Gopher but it was worth it.

Otherwise I was yet another Susanna Hoffs fan, when a Bangles tour was announced me and my mate calculated (using a transparency grid, seating plan and photos of stage positions) the seats which would be right in front of her at a gig. We bought tickets but the gig or tour was cancelled. History could have been changed that night, I was even going to hand her a rose (a plastic musical one). Her loss.
