cityfanlee23 Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 Well looking at that list, and presuming we get promoted, I would say there's 5 names on there that you would expect to be offered new contracts. Question is that if we don't get promoted do we offer them all contracts? Suppose it all depends on where we're at at the end of the season. I'd give 3 contracts and wouldnt be bothered if they went tbh... Kasper - YES Morgan - YES (No massive wage rise though, not worth it this year) Wasyl - NO Konch - NO (Although he's loyal and put up with alot of unwanted shit, he will be ripped in the prem now) SSL - NO Whitbread - NO Danns - NO Dyer - YES (impact winger off the bench) Waghorn - NO (Unless he pulls some top form out of the bag soon) Nugent - NO GTF - NO x3 contracts All 3 of those easily replaceable.
LCCFox96 Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 Kasper Morgan Wasyl Konch SSL Whitbread Danns Dyer Waghorn Nugent GTF Think we can presume that because their loan deals have been extended to thee nd of the season Danns and Whitbread will not be returning. I would like to see the manager and several of the key players signed up this month though. That would be good business.
Babylon Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 Hilarious that Nugent is now not seen as good enough by some and is worth binning. Top scorer three years running for goodness sake. No doubt the same people who wanted to bin vardy after a few months.

No doubt the same people who wanted to bin vardy after a few months. Not quite But a serious question now, How many seasons would you give nugent on the back of his top scorer records? another 5? If he plays shit for the rest of this season, do we really need to be paying his 20-25k a week to chance that next season he scores 30 goals next year? Better options out there based on his last 12 months.
KFS Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 Oh Lee, don't start the Nugent shite again. I'm begging you
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 On one hand Liam, Was and Miquel could do a good enough job anyway to get us up. But isn't it time us fans started getting involved with a few 'sign em up' chants? Nothing nasty, just a cough in the ear to the people who sort out contracts. Everytime one of those players get the ball, we start singing "Sign him up" No, no, no and NO. Morgan is quite clearly already trying to put pressure on the club and the powers that be with his threats to look elsewhere etc. What him and Nugent seem to forget that it's the club's perogative if and when they offer new contracts. Were we to go up then they will get a new contract because they will have done what they are paid to do and will provide value for money for the club. If we don't then they probably won't get a new deal because they won't have done what they are paid to do. As someone else said, this is a position in which the club cannot lose out in exactly the same way that Schmeichel realises he can't lose out because he'll walk away and get a new deal if we don't go up anyway. I am PERFECTLY happy to let the club decide what's best for the club. If they're not talking about new deals now then that's fine by me because they won't be doing it to the detriment of LCFC. Morgan, Nugent and co may not be happy with it even if it's for the good of the club as they are thinking about themselves. Which is why we shouldn't, as a fan base, pander to their whines and moans and put pressure on the club just because we think these guys are good players. Let's not forget that they're not wanting to stay for the love of the club. Morgan in particular needs to pipe down and realise that it's not actually his decision whether or not he goes until June. He cannot do anything about it until then other than get his head down and play well. If he wants to try and force a move elsewhere now rather than cracking on with getting us promoted then he's thicker than I even first thought.
Babylon Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 But a serious question now, How many seasons would you give nugent on the back of his top scorer records? You talk like it's in the past. Another 5? Errr who in their right mind would give him 5 years, he will be 29 come the end of the season so I would give him two years. If he plays shit for the rest of this season, do we really need to be paying his 20-25k a week to chance that next season he scores 30 goals next year? Who says it would be 20/25k? We aren't going to be paying anyone that, and if that's what he wants then he can go elsewhere for it. What do you mean chance he scores 30 goals next year, how many strikers score 30 goals? 15/16 from a striker is absolutely fine as long as others are chipping in... as this season has already shown. Better options out there based on his last 12 months. Who are these FREE better options then?
Spiritwalker Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 Very disappointing to hear Morgans interview. Not what you expect of the club captain, however I don't think he would be saying this type of thing without NP's blessing.
Wink Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 Kasper Morgan Wasyl Konch SSL Whitbread Danns Dyer Waghorn Nugent GTF SSL, Whitbread and Danns are irrelevant, they have no future here. Those in bold are not first team starters and wouldn't worry to much about those. The rest are valuable players for us but due to their current wage I feel it would depend on what division we are in to what contract we can offer them, so technically they need to earn a new contract by winning promotion to guarantee themselves a good deal. It's risky having so many players out of contract at the end of the season, but it's the same with every club due to FFP. The players should and need to be/stay professional and carry on with their jobs. If they can not do that then maybe they're not the right type of players to have here?

What's that old saying Fergie used to go on about all the time...?? No player is bigger than the club, that applies here!!
Stadt Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 I think it'd be worthwhile giving Wasyl a one year extension because of his experience and I'd imagine it wouldn't cost much either.
Stan Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 Lets not forget we are not the only club in this situation several of the other Championship teams will have big money players looking for new contracts Derby - 16 players QPR - 15 players Burnley - 10 players
Frost Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 Kasper Morgan Wasyl Konch SSL Whitbread Danns Dyer Waghorn Nugent GTF Would keep Kasper, Morgan & Dyer. Nugent & Konchesky on significantly reduced terms. That's it for me, promotion or not. EDIT: How long is Bagayoko's contract? Pointless.
Bayfox Posted 4 January 2014 Posted 4 January 2014 Derby - 16 players QPR - 15 players Burnley - 10 players difference being we have a few younger players who may or may not cut it in the top flight.qpr know most of theres dont!!!! they will be glad to get rid whatever div they are in
Strokes Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 difference being we have a few younger players who may or may not cut it in the top flight. qpr know most of theres dont!!!! they will be glad to get rid whatever div they are in It's not the younger players contracts in question though so I don't see your point.
Bayfox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 It's not the younger players contracts in question though so I don't see your point. We may lose a few players but have something to build on. do qpr own a player under 30? They really just need rid off.
MC Prussian Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Not quite But a serious question now, How many seasons would you give nugent on the back of his top scorer records? another 5? Better options out there based on his last 12 months. 5-year contracts are very rare these days and only the most prestigious and/or talented ones have them granted. I don't know where your antipathy towards Nugent is coming from - I sense it's more or less uncalled for. All you can offer is "ifs" and "buts". We don't know how Nugent's season will pan out, we don't know for how much longer he can keep up the pace and his form and goalscoring record. Nobody can predict that. All we can hope for is that he, and his LCFC peers, put in the extra shift and maintain the current form and see us through the finishing line with promotion beckoning. Like I've already stated in another thread, every player goes through rough patches. You just seem to dwell in Nugent's past mishaps in particular. And I don't quite understand why that is.
MattGamble92 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Lloyd Dyer should be given 2 more years. Still not seen anyone go past players like he does at this level. Frightening. And would be a threat against prem teams too. Morgan hasn't been as good this season as last. He's still great and i thought he was our best player last year, but he is red scum when all is said and done (reason he'll never be a legend) and i'd never ever forgive him if he went back to forest.
Mack Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Times are changing in Football for me, very gradually player power is being eroded and it might even be that as the seasons pass fees for players will be come less prominent and players will arrange their futures as their contracts come to an end. That said what we have below with our players is the basis and spine of a team that will see us in good stead for a good few seasons to come, and regardless of where we will play next season they need to be signed up, as for the rest a better decision can be made when we know which division we are playing in come the summer, although some just don't fit our mould and would be better to move on to find better times elsewhere. Essential signings now: KasperMorgan Nugent Dyer Konch Summer assessment: WasylWaghornGTF Let them go: Danns Sean St Ledger Whitbread

I'd imagine if we were to get promotion, the moment it is confirmed, comparable offers would be made. The current contracts do not fit with what is sustainable in this league, for what we pay them, next season we could get 2 quality replacement should we still be in the championship.
katieakita Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 The owners cannot win. They have just shown their intent with over £100 million ploughed into the club. Their only chance of re-couping a decent return is premier league success. so what do they do? The important one for me is NP and does anyone reallky think they haven't put an offer on the table and does anyone think it isn't based on this seasons outcome. NP is no fool he knows promotion gets a big bonus and a new contract offer, keep delivering on the field and the figure goes up for him.. Success will bring it's own rewards, those deemed able to do a job in the premiership will be offered a contract and it will be a decent amount i just cannot see the owners losing someone over a few quid. If we don't go up then it is a diffrent matter and premiership wages won't be on offer. In the background you have agents who get a cut on every new contract, every new transfers and most are leeches. They don't give a toss about things like loyalty they just want their cut; for me those who the club want to stay will be offered good contracts and if the club isn't close to meeting their demands let them go.
Rob1742 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I started a thread on this a while back. Very difficult situation. If you offer the ones you are planning to keep a contract and not the others, you have a spilt in the group. I think Nugent is on in the region of 35k per week, opening a negotiation with him with a more realistic wage of 8k per week will cause friction as soon as the offer lands on his doorstep. I think the only thing you can do, is do nothing until the end of the season, but also bring in a few players at either position on loan to cover in case they leave or performances drop. I think this is potentially the biggest thing that can derail us this season, but there isn't anything you can do about it. Most I believe will be offered much lower deals due to FFP, so it is probably best to do nothing and hope, rather than antagonise the situation. Expect more agents putting articles of unrest in the press as they try and force the issue for their players though

As you know there's loads of 15 goal a season players waiting to sign for us
