He wouldn't have been able to get anything like his current wage anywhere else (except maybe QPR... ), so having to take a pay cut was always going to happen. From there it just became a matter of choosing if he wanted to stay here (and we wanted him to stay) or going elsewhere. If he's enjoying his football here and getting first team football, it's a no brainer.. The only surprising thing is that he has agreed a deal which doesn't increase with promotion.

Hopefully this will open the floodgates and we'll see a number of the others join him in agreeing terms over the next few weeks.

Although not specifically stating forward passing and I wouldn't state my life on the reliability of this site but......

http://www.squawka.com/players/paul-konchesky-2#performance-score#leicester-city-(current)#football-league-championship#10#season-2013/2014#93#all-matches#1-26#by-match

Suggests that he makes 78% of passes and most of them are over 20 meters - nigh on (5m short) the length of a swimming pool....... And they are not all back to the keeper!

I would like to see a forward pass completion rate, saying that his forwards pass completion was less than 50% was maybe slightly harsh but I dislike him as a player because he's so negative.

To be honest last season I thought he under-performed. He was awful against Leeds but apart from that has been solid and consistent this season. For me he's always a 7/10. No more, no less. But having that 7/10 consistent player every week is so so valuable. Doubt he'd be our first choice in the prem but this is fantastic news. Well done Paul

They can't agree terms unless they've actually been offered new contracts

As others have said thought he had gone last season but been very good this season. I do believe he could still do a job in the prem as well, look at the 3 games we have played against prem sides in the cup he has looked very good, even keeping Navas quiet.

Fair play to him and well done.

A model professional (bar one very tiny mishap) and in every game he's played for us he's never ever gave less then 100%.

So realistically now, Nugent and Dyer on new deals would be nice.

However in an ideal world:

-Nugent takes a pay cut and signs on for 2 years

-Dyer signs a one year extension

-Kasper signs a 2 year extension. (Possible pay cut).

Happy harmony.

Another piece of very sensible business by the club which currently seems to be run very well.

We should do a round of applause for him

maybe we should hold banners up in the 1st, 11th and 35th minutes saying when? to get Kasper, Dyer and Nugent signed up

Fair play to him, though it does point towards him knowing be was being overpaid. Good news nonetheless. Get the rest signed up now.

Be steady back up next year. I'd go as far as to say we'd be nowhere near hitting the heights we are right now had we not kept hold of him and had to make do with Jeff / Miquel rotating. Both are adequate but sometimes a bit of nous is needed and Konch has that in abundance, great engine for someone approaching the twilight years of their career, too.

People seem to perceive solid consistency as a negative when it's exactly what we want from our players. Doesn't get half the credit he deserves and I think that's more than partly down to the contract he was on.

had to be done. good news. FFP might be a joke, but at this point it can be used to wrestle a bit of power away from the players...at this level anyway.

Not bad.

I'd keep him for another season at least, but we still definitely need a new left-back.

He is experienced, and has been pretty consistent this season, still a good player to have on our books.
