This kind of thread crops up quite often. He's been through a number of spells when he's been out of the team and people question whether he still has a place at the club. Each time it's happened he's made a comeback and showed that he does have a part to play. I expect it to be the same this time, even if he does look out of the picture right now.

Useful player to have at the moment even though we haven't used him at all recently.

I think he will want a shot in the Prem with us, whether Pearson wants him is another thing.

Not a bad player to have with international experience. I would keep him, as long as he is ok with being only a squad player

Think he might end up playing more next season. Like Wood, he seems to be down the order because of the system we play rather than playing badly when he's come on. He offers more going forward than either DD or James and if we bring anyone in that can be his enforcer (or we play 4-5-1 for some teams) I can imagine him making a big contribution.

Great lad, loyal to the club and would walk into most other sides in the league. Think there's more to come, and hope we keep him.

Would be gutted if he left. Been my favourite player since League One. Shame for him that he hasn't played more this season but Matty James took his chance and hasn't looked back.

King still has a role to play, I'm sure.

Agree with this. One of our best academy products in ages and a highly professional player for us. I'd go as far as saying he is the best central midfielder we have going forward and is a better finisher than everyone in all the midfield positions. I'm not too sure why has had any game time at all recently. Surely 2-0 at home to Ipswich was a good chance for some game time?

Also he'll still have a role to play. I'm sure we'd look to Kingy to start, over Hammond, if Drinkwater or James became injured or suspended. There's also the chance he'll freshen things up occasionally like he did at Millwall (a) and Kingy would likely start then. Shows how strong our squad is if a player of his quality can't get in.

I don't think we get crowded out in midfield as much as we used to, since King was out of the side.

King is a decent all round midfielder with good finishing but together James and Drinkwater are a better pairing and better players.

If we go up, we will change the team around more often with different systems. Also, we wont be going on runs of 9 straight wins so Pearson will be more likely to make changes after a couple of bad results.

to be fair, i think he'll work his way back in.. you need a goal scoring midfielder in the prem and he has that ability

agree - he carries a real goal threat, makes good runs and is possibly the best attacking header of a ball in the side and could do well in a prem squad

He's part of a squad, he'll understand why he isn't getting in. King doesn't come across as the type of player that will moan. He's a decent back up, and he might get his chance again. I mean, James was in at the start of the season until his red card at Charlton which provided King with an opportunity.

He's done very well in cameos during the unbeaten run. Leeds and Bournemouth away in particular.

Agree with this. He looked sharp in both games. Everyone was talking about KP's dummy creating Nugent's goal at Leeds, but it was King who won the ball in midfield and drove us forward on that attack.

Would be sad to see him leave if he ever decided to go. He still has a part to play in this team. Great back up player and I'm sure if either James or Drinkwater get injured or suspended, King will grab his opportunity with both hands.

I agree also that he will have a part to play next year if we do go up. He is a big goal threat on his day.

No, Pearson really rates him and he seems to have the right attitude within the dressing room.

Would be great for him to play for us in the Premier League having been here in the relegation season of 2008 and subsequent revival.

I doubt the club will want to let him go, but we already have a few goalscoring midfielders (Dyer, Knockaert, James was reputed to be a goalscoring midfielder in his Man U Youth days even if it hasn't happened for him here yet) and to be honest King hasn't done that for a few years.

He's a strange sort of player. A defensive midfielder who is shy of a tackle and not particularly good at tracking his man. Over the course of this season and last we've been stronger without him in the side. If we make the Premiership and opt for 4-5-1 it will be with a new addition, rather than King, I expect. A useful bench-warmer, but not much more.

But then again, that's hard for some of us to accept. Even a few months ago this place was awash with people telling us that 'people who don't appreciate how important Andy King is for us don't understand football'. Then we drop him and go on the longest run of victories in our history!

King is probably one of the top 10 midfielders in the league, but he has another two in the same team as him.

Centre-midfield is the one area where we are really strong, and don’t need strengthening – so I doubt that we would buy any more centre-midfielders if (when) we go up.

King has been unfortunate. He was too often forced to play the defensive midfield role for which he is not well equipped. I think we would be doing just as well if we had been playing James and King, rather than James and Drinkwater. The problem is always when Drinkwater and King play together.

I actually think that James and King may be our first-choice midfield pair in the Prem. King has a level of skill that means he may make the step up to the Prem a lot easier than some of our other players.

I think King would fare better in the premier league than he does in the championship. He'd be valuable if we had to play with a 3 man midfield.

1. He's not a defensive midfielder

2. He doesn't pull out of tackles, he just doesn't go full-blooded into them. He's very clever a getting a knick on the ball or holding up the opposition allowing the defence to reorganise.

3. Questioning the tactical/mental side of his game is ludicrous. His off the ball work is exceptional.

He is rightly out of the team at the moment as Drinky and James have been excellent but I'd be very surprised if he wasn't in Pearson's long-term plan. I can't see us signing more than 1 central midfielder in the summer so that means its likely he will still be an important part of the team.
